Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsStill NO backlash for GOP TalkingPointsTodd on ANY networks' political programs.
They spent a lot of time talking about the problems that Democrats will have in the election because of the president - the president that they are all taking potshots at and LYING ABOUT 24/7.
The corporate news media is STILL democracy's BIGGEST obstacle at this point in our history.
Never in my 4 decades of political awareness have I seen a president piled on so deliberately and so shamelessly with lies, innuendos, and more lies delivered daily 24/7 by those who are supposed to be impartial conveyors of facts.

David Letterman seems the only hope on this now, or will they put a blanket order out not to use his clips about Todd and his massive propaganda fail?
The smugness, the "fuck you, what ya gonna do about it?"
I think your OP deserves a million recommendations, every day from now until their next propaganda fail, which will be any time now.
"Doing a Todd" could be made synonymous with awareness of mass propaganda.

(45,251 posts)Where are the adverse consequences? The deluge of complaints to their advertisers? The boycotts of the media and the advertisers?

(45,251 posts)It would be hard to get a boycott going that would be big enough to hurt, say, General Mills, or whoever owns General Mills now. But companies that get hurt economically by boycotts do care. It's a matter of getting a large enough one going. Hard to do, unless you have your own TV show.

(10,751 posts)...so even if we can't go after the whole lineup of products, we could target one. I don't know who advertises on MTP but we can find out who they are and boycott just those brands. Target them and let them know why. Make it nonpartisan, but do stress this is the President of the United States and this lowlife lackey posing as a newsman just LIED BALDFACED to his viewers about what they had just heard.
As someone on another thread mentioned, there is widespread gaslighting going on in this country. This is a blatant example and should be put out there as an example of the term. This is seriously messed up. The men (mostly) behind the scenes pulling the strings are going too far now. They think they can lie to us now and we won't notice.
Here's the video I want to see: put the clips up, with timestamps under them, showing the 4 times that President Obama mentioned Syria. Then show the clip where Chuck Todd says "you haven't mentioned Syria". Then do that grinding-a-record-backwards sound like the DJs do and replay the sequence, pausing between each clip with the time stamps blinking for emphasis. Then end it with flashing lights and wailing sirens... something indicating that Chuck Todd is BUSTED.
They have no business to lie like this. And we have no business to let them.

(45,251 posts)One study--maybe more, but I read about one--showed that people believe the first version of a story they hear or read. Not only that, but, if they do happen to catch a later correction, it only reinforces the first version. (IMO, government uses this technique, too, as with monthly figures, like unemployment. We get one set, then a corrected set. The corrected set is worse news than the first.)
And then there is the Goebbels Rove theorem: if you tell a big lie often enough, a lot of people will eventually believe it.
Sure, some will pay close enough attention to catch the lie, but you will still fool some of the people most of the time.
So, you almost can't lose by lying.
Unless you have a conscience.

There's no "boycotting" those guys. They're all tied up in the military-industrial-congressional complex. They get government contracts, they pay for programs that enable government mouthpieces that are sympathetic to their goals and purposes.
The way to "boycott" MTP is to turn the thing off and make a point of writing an insulting blog post/tweet/facebook comment about them. Put in some snark about Upchucking (Todd) 4 Syria to drive the point home.
ljm2002
(10,751 posts)...I wasn't aware of who the sponsors are. But you are right, if it's the big MIC contractors then boycotting them is not in the cards. And you are also right that ridicule is the way to go -- loud, long and often. So far it seems that only David Letterman has done so. And that is a damned shame.

(135,425 posts)If it's not military/industrial/congressional, it's Big Pharma or Big Agriculture, or one of the large energy companies--BP, Mobile, etc.
It's not even subtle, they've become an echo chamber for insiders. People who watch them want to nod along approvingly, not be challenged with a differing opinion in any way. It's made the format pretty useless.
I like the old school format, where a moderator did a short interview, followed by a little press conference with the guest where the guest actually met the press. Four of five reporters, not employed by the network, would ask the guest real questions not softballs. The guest would actually be given an opportunity to answer, and not be badgered. If the guest was stonewalling or bullshitting, it was obvious.

(53,661 posts)The online version will continue to be: 'Why didn't Obama fight back? He's a coward! Proof he's a corporate tool!'
Alternative media would say much the same: 'See? Obama is just a Fabian tool, he wants us to fail as a nation!'
With non-stop wash, rinse and repeat by all sides as Donald Segretti laughs.
With a generous serving of: 'Why doesn't he use his power to inform us? Let's bash Obama and the Democrats for this.'
And still, no one is talking about the substance of what Obama said, or the policy or the ideals, only the stir stirred by Todd.
'How paralysingly dull, boring and tedious.'
