Oh.

Shit.

I hit "Post my thread" button a little too soon.

I'll bet Chuck Todd and bloggers everywhere have already written the bulk of their comments in reaction to Obama's address.

So...it's all done before and there wasn't much in the short speech except what was predicted.

I did think that "Cold but Fair" did apply to the Speech itself, though...although you were referring to the OP's Post in your reply, I believe.

There is a bit of Obama that is often cold or distanced (may be better word) which smacks of his maybe inward view of "keep your hands clean...and don't reveal anything that could affect your career or your wife and children after you leave the Oval Office." Just do what you have to do...making sure you "do what your military/political advisers prescribe...keep nose clean and you will do well afterwards." Can't blame him for that...given what he walked into.

His exceptional Legal training at Harvard and the impartial distancing that Lawyers are trained to develop...plus a bit of looking forward to life AFTER his Presidency... (rather than constrictions of the moment at hand) would lead him to caution and a reticence/reluctance to revealing any depth of conviction or principle he might have had when he ran for President in 2008...if that was so with him at that time.

If one has to follow Dick Cheney as a "Second Act" when giving a Presidential Speech.. then, although we know that a Democratic President was Elected... In Truth....we still are dealing with the Cheney/McCain/Neocon/Corporate/Global Wall Steet Controlled Presidency and he is the "sit in" to do the Social Programs....but, the WARS belong to the GLOBAL /WALL STREET/MIC/Think Tanks and other Corporate Interests who Fund our Presidents and Congress these days.

Not much changes but nuances. We Dems are pretty good with the Social Stuff.. But we likes our Wars/Interventions for our Global Business Interests/Trade/ Oil & Mineral Interests..... TOO MUCH!....imho. But, then, some of us have lived with this since JFK so we should be used to it. Others of us had had enough of it and want change.

Just a thought...

This is such a curious imagination, to me, of Obama's inner life.
I don't want to suggest it is some kind of projection on your part,
but that's usually what's going on.

If I were to imagine his inner thoughts it would be a completely
different tale; however, it would most likely be similar to my
own thinking, or my projectile imaginings -- not necessarily even
within a million miles of reality.

Leading an international coalition.

Airstrikes.

Syria or Iraq, threaten America and there will be no safe haven.

1: Teams w/o combat missions will train and support friendlies.

2: Call on congress for authority and resources. Yay!

3: Continue counterterrorism measures and strategies.

4: Humanitarian Assistance.

Steady relentless effort, working with partners, Yemen and Somalia as examples.

Despite these shocks, America is positioned to seize the future. Ha!

We can't take the place of Iraqi's or other forces in the Region.. But, America will lead a Broad Coalition to Fight back

We will Degrade and Destroy ISIL with Iraqi Forces (the ones who caved) and we will TAKE THEM OUT IN SYRIA....

We will increase our support to those fighting on the Ground. The Teams have completed their work and we will keep sending forces to Train, Support Itelligence and other Operations ...but, they won't be Ground Troops but we need to Fund Them with (our tax dollars).

We must strengthen our Counter Terrorism Forces to Prevent ISIL Attacks. We will cut off their Funding...etc.

He will Convene the UN to Intervene...and he will protect the other Sects.

He says we have a BROAD COALITION of FORCES. (Where are they? Have they been shown bombing on CNN? I don't watch MSM) He says we Stand with People who Fight for their Own Freedom.

He says he has the Authority to do what he has to do to Fight ISIL but he Welcomes Support from Congress.

Says Risks to Service Men and Women but it WILL NOT INVOLVE "Forces on the Ground"...but just Air Strikes and "what we have on the ground" (CIA). BUT...we have PARTNERS.

WE LIVE IN A TIME OF GREAT CHANGE..AMERICANS......Despite these Shocks America is Better Positioned to Achieve with our Business and Stock Markets and the Rest all of it as a Result of American Leadership and Resources.

Then he Attacks Puntin and Russia over Ukraine as an enemy.

America has Endless Blessings and we Lead across the world ....Standing for Freedom, Justice and Dignity.

He asks for our Support and he does so as "Commander in Chief" and Praises our Military and gives Anecdotes of suffering Serviceperson..

We Make a Difference in the World because we are Upholding the Values that We Stand for after!

Broad American Leadership.

I couldn't click fast enough to get it all ...it's just what he said which most of our Presidents have Said in Times of War....Heard it from Bush on Back whenever USA does an Invasion or Action. ......It is what it is.

It was short, quick and whatever.

Another damn war.

Why don't we just get the hell off of fossil fuels, so that we don't need the Middle East.
This is all about profits for oil companies, and as nothing to do with you and me.

When are we going to learn that violence only begets violence?

How many children and other innocent people are going to be turned into chopped meat because of our actions, and how many more terrorists will THAT breed.

The ONLY thing that will work, is to make these tribes in the Middle East insignificant, and let them have their goddamn oil.
We need a Manhattan Project style affair to get renewable energy for EVERYONE. Then, and only then can we be rid of this.
