Transcript details dispute between Lavon Heidemann, sister

LINCOLN – Before he issued a protection order against Lt. Gov. Lavon Heidemann on Monday, a judge was warned that such a step could have serious rammifications for the politician.

“I mean, it could affect employment, it can affect your ability to get a firearm,” argued Heidemann’s attorney, according to a court transcript. "There are serious things at stake here.”

But Johnson County District Court Judge Daniel Bryan rejected that argument, saying “that's another issue completely.”

On Monday, after a 30-minute court hearing, the judge ordered the prominent Republican to stay away from his sister for a year, ruling that his angry outbursts and an incident in which he physically pushed her out of her elderly mother’s home amounted to a “credible threat” to the sister’s safety.
