It is the largest home in the U.S. & comes with a one-story gatehouse with its own apartment.
The home is located on the shore of Lake Butler in Windermere, just outside of Orlando
Westgate Resorts founder David Siegel owns the property & is asking $65-million for the unfinished palace.

(32,094 posts)It's really hideous, isn't it? I was thinking that if I had the ability to buy such a property, I could convert it into a small hotel/resort, and make a business of it. But that thing is so damn ugly, it would cost millions more to get it to where I could stand to look at it.

(102,378 posts)Marginally better than the monstrosity as it stands now, but still lacking in any kind of tasteful design--especially for the area.

(15,090 posts)Last week, on the way to the garden center, I took a detour because of road construction. The lay of the land was typical of the far suburbs of Pittsburgh...farm, house, house, mcmansion, bigger mcmansion, house, farm, farm, and HOLY DEAR GOD WHAT'S THAT!?!?!
It was like suddenly coming across the Biltmore Estate in the suburbs. Biggest damn house I've ever seen that wasn't a museum. Here's a Web site that shows the place--it's at the bottom of the page:
http://homesoftherich.net/2009/03/mansions-brought-to-my-attention-by-my-readers.html
When people can start building private houses that look like the Biltmore Estate and are bigger than most apartment buildings, they have too damn much money.
How can anyone feel "comfortable" in a place like that? Seriously, I think there must be some sort of disorder to want a place like that were you would feel like you're "living" in an office building.

(37,162 posts)And when they get their minds off of Rush on the beach, what do they think of this big unfinished manor (on a far too small piece of property for this sort of thing -- if you're going to do insane extravagance, at least do it right).
