Wars don't cost anything. Those two excellent invasions we carried out against Afghanistan and Iraq last decade didn't cost a penny. I know, because I saw it on Republican political ads, which keep telling me that the explosion of the deficit has been solely due to Democratic control of Congress beginning in 2006.

If we're going to have a new war, it won't cost anything either. Which reminds me, I think it's time for another round of tax cuts for the wealthiest citizens.

He could at least bring it up as an issue and make the R's look "soft on terror",

But.....

At this point, the Republicans are already maneuvering to eliminate military spending from the sequester.

I can dig up a link if you like.

But as far as real politik is concerned, Obama has the R's over a barrel, he can demand a tax on the wealthy to pay for the war, if they don't go for it he can paint them soft on terror. Win/win. He could still have his war either way.

Instead, he's gonna take it from grans.

to sacrifice anything? I can see you are an isolationist nonpatriot. In times of war we must all sacrifice and trust in our leaders.

Who needs food when there's a war to fight. Dropping a $10m bomb on a goat herder with a glorified firecracker should be #1 priority!

Even if they were raised, new loopholes would be added to not only offset the raise but lower the tax burden even more.

Cuz that's how their game is played.

insist on cutting to balance the budget and see if they are willing to do without those services. Then our leaders can have their military action. Obama can put his chess pieces on the table, I mean cards.

You can't predict stuff like this. Someone makes an estimate, the first military action will likely 'exceed authorized expenditures'.

Last time we faced a shock doctrine "crisis," we ended up with *more* austerity than Paul Ryan originally wanted.

Hell, just in the past month or two we got a farm bill based on "pension smoothing" and a hefty cut in FOOD STAMPS.

Remember?

We are bought and sold. We are farm animals for profit.
