Just when you were wondering if the Ray Rice case brought America to a new respect for women...

Missouri lawmakers pass 72-hour abortion waiting period, override gov's veto

Missouri lawmakers enacted one of the nation's most stringent abortion waiting periods Wednesday, overriding a veto of legislation that will require women to wait 72 hours after consulting with a doctor before ending a pregnancy.

You find out the answer real quick. How could the NFL or the criminal justice system seem so tone deaf to defend women against violent crime? Oh, yeah because we live in a country where laws like this pass time and time again. These laws are designed to treat women as children, or worse vassals of the state. There is no valid medical reason for them. This might be the worst yet as there is no protections for waving the period in cases of rape or incest. There is no valid societal reason for this law other than to shame women that need medical treatment and validate violence towards women. The people that voted for this law are disgusting human beings.

Before lawmakers convened, scores of abortion opponents gathered for a prayer vigil in the Capitol Rotunda, asking that God grant courage and boldness to lawmakers voting to enact the waiting period.

Because apparently far too many Americans think God hates women too. It just gets depressing after a while doesn't it.

After all, she's just a womanfolk and you wouldn't want to make her think too much too quickly.

Note, for the internet sarcasm impaired, please insert a sarcasm emoticon here.

But more seriously, I can't imagine this law standing up to a challenge as it's clearly directed at just abortion. If only there was a way to effectively punish lawmakers for making such obviously illegal laws. I wouldn't want to punish every lawmaker who has a law overturned, but when you see these sort of repetitive laws that keep trying to push the line and it's obvious the intent is to punish women, there should be a legal punishment.
