(62,325 posts)of anyone's death, but this bigot sure caused enough heartbreak and bloodshed during his life.
I remember Katie Couric trying to find out why he hated the Native Irish Population of Northern Ireland when he was here. She, like many others who never understood the conflict there asked: 'But why do you hate Irish Catholics?' She, though not anyone familiar with his bigotry, was shocked by his reply: 'I don't hate them, I just wish they were all dead'. Mild for him.
Anyhow, he's gone now so hopefully no one else like him will emerge and peace will prevail in Northern Ireland.

(22,631 posts)And I knew that my comment could be interpreted in various ways.
My analysis is purely cursory from the perspective of the characteristics of his speaking voice. Which, as far as I can see, was his only redeeming quality.
I was trying not to speak ill of the dead.
He was able to use his penchant for public speaking as a means to an end.
Few humans speak up. Many speak out. Few use their speaking abilities to influence history, however misguided they may be in the process. As much as I hate it, evil people still use their voices.
He makes me think of a similar politician from my experience, Senator Jesse Helms.
Thanks for your reply.
