Chick-fil-A Booted From California High School For Anti-Gay Positions

Ventura County High School has banned Chick-fil-A from its campus because of the fast food giant's anti-gay positions.


The principal of California's Ventura County High School has banned a local Chick-fil-A franchise from a campus fundraiser over concerns participation could offend parents and students.

“With their political stance on gay rights and because the students of Ventura High School and their parents would be at the event, I didn’t want them on campus,” Wyatt told the Ventura County Star.

The Ventura Chick-fil-A would have donated 200 meals of sandwiches and wraps, allowing the booster club to keep all proceeds. The club had expected to raise $1,600 for the football team.

Robert Shaffer, operator and owner of the Ventura Chick-fil-A, said there is a misperception that the restaurant is involved in the politics of same-sex marriage.

"Chick-fil-A doesn't have a stance on gay marriage. We don't have a stance on gay rights," Shaffer said. "We treat everyone who walk through our doors, regardless of their religion or sexual orientation, with honor, dignity and respect."

For years Chick-fil-A has donated millions of dollars via its own Winshape Foundation charity to anti-gay organizations, including a small sum to an anti-gay hate group.

Dan Cathy, now Chick-fil-A's Chairman, President and CEO, ignited a firestorm a few years ago with extremist anti-gay comments. This year he promised to end public commentary on social issues and has reportedly reduced the amount of money given to anti-gay organizations -- although he still supports others who hold extremist beliefs.
