Goodbye to single-payer in Vermont, if Dem Governor is not re-elected.

Unfortunately, Vermont governors serve for only two years, so it's already time for Shumlin, who has been a huge proponent of the ACA, to face another election. This one will be critical.

Shumlin first vowed to deliver a single-payer health care system back in 2010. Four years later, he has yet to tell voters what taxes he’ll use to fund the program.

"I was elected to get tough thing done, and this may well be the toughest. But I will not rest until it is done."
But he says answers to public financing questions are coming in January.

“We are moving forward on the nation’s first single-payer health care system that contains costs, takes the burden off of employer and simplifies the system for all Vermonters,” he said. “I was elected to get tough thing done, and this may well be the toughest. But I will not rest until it is done.”

In addition to enjoying all the advantages of incumbency, Shumlin has some other political factors swaying in his favor, namely the emergence of third-party candidate Dan Feliciano.

Scott Milne, a travel agency owner is the repub sacrificial lamb, er, I mean candidate. He's never run for office before, never been involved in politics, has made some incredible gaffes- including talking about the fascinations of bunny sex at a press conference, and has no money.

barring something completely unforeseen like Shumlin arrested for embezzling or murder, he will be re-elected. Terms may be only for 2 years, but VT guvs get elected and re-elected until they retire. And Milne is just what I stated: a sacrificial lamb. No one is taking has candidacy as even a remote threat to Shumlin.

I know this state. I know the politics here. I've never seen a less competitive race for governor.
