Conservative GOP Official: Sterilize Poor Women Who Get Federal Aid And Put Them Through Hell
As if the GOP war on women isn’t already bad enough, an Arizona conservative official is openly calling for sterilizing poor women.
During a radio broadcast this week, Arizona Republican Party vice-chairman Russell Pearce said poor women should be sterilized by force if they get government aid such as Medicaid and food stamps. The author of Arizona’s anti-immigrant “papers please” law called for the draconian policy as his way of “fixing” what he sees as a broken public assistance system.
According to Pearce, only people with jobs should have the right to have children, but considering that even people with jobs have Medicaid, Pearce must have been talking about people with well-paying jobs.

2. Companies who get huge tax beaks for (essentially) doing nothing.
3. Politicians who (essentially) do nothing....which is most of the Republicans.
4. The NFL (LOTS of tax breaks)
5. Many non-profits (Not all) who...You guessed it...Do nothing.

One of the most dehumanizing aspects of the welfare system, even for the people who are ON it, is the way that the only way to survive is illicitly, and one of the LEAST unsavory ways of doing so for women, is just to have children - so as a family you can collectively have enough benefits to survive.
FAMILIES are allocated many more resources via the system than INDIVIDUALS are. Thus there is a subtle pressure on poor women to have children, just for the sake of survival.
Single people without children - men and women - are devalued and dehumanized. In my area I was only eligible for food stamps and "General Assistance - a subsidy for my rent (which is a LOAN, not "free money"
. There is no cash allocated for non-food basic necessities. If I receive or earn cash for basic necessities and legally report it, it's taken out of my rent money, undermining my housing (click my sig for details). This will also automatically shut off all Social Services programs so I need to appeal to get them restarted. Somehow Social Services is able to mess with my "mandated" Medi-Cal medical coverage, too - even though I'm income-eligible, enrolled, and was using its services right up until the start of September.
Individuals are positioned to be driven to homelessness (the secret wish is they will be driven "somewhere else", possibly driven to suicide or at least to "die sooner" when they go on welfare: even if the reason they are on welfare is they became disabled and became caught up in the State's delay's in processing paper work for SSI/SSDI or Veteran's disability benefits. As individuals, your life is meaningless unless you are either an instrument for babies or an instrument for a capitalist's labor.
If this GOP politician wants poor single women to stop having babies, here's the answer give poor single women - indeed, all poor single individuals - a way to survive on welfare WITHOUT having babies! Something other than prostituting themselves or begging or resorting to crime - because surprisingly having a couple of babies who might go on to become tax paying citizens and help you in your old age seems morally preferable to those alternatives to some women.
The system as it is now is just wink wink nudge nudge torture and indirect genocide. And that's not hyperbole. Start invading women's wombs to undercut their survival and Ferguson will be the least of this country's riot problems.
