Of course, we have had to alter the definition of "win" some since World War II, but why quibble?
And, of course, our government always gets to define for us exactly which "evil" is worth using our blood and treasure to fight or to support.
For years, the evil was the Red Menace. Those were the good old days, weren't they?
Turns out, the "godless" extreme left had nothing on the extreme religious right, whom we armed in Afghanistan, before we bombed Afghanistan because we thought--or claimed we thought--that the guy we once armed in Afghanistan was still in Afghanistan.
We (not us--the Iraqis, wink) had to hang our former good friend Hussein and now ISIL is supporting our former good friend, Assad.
Realpolitik is one fickle turd in the punchbowl of life, isn't it?
