Just so everybody knows, Adrian Peterson WILL NOT play Sunday.

Adrian Peterson, the star Minnesota Vikings running back charged with child abuse, surrendered to Montgomery County, Tex., authorities early Saturday morning and was freed on $15,000 bond.

Peterson flew to Houston on Friday night after practicing with the Vikings earlier in the day. A warrant had been issued for Peterson’s arrest Friday afternoon, one day after he was true-billed — indicted, essentially — by a Montgomery County grand jury on a single count of injuring a child. The team listed him as inactive for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots at Minneapolis.

I'm glad he's out. I feel guilty for being such a big fan for so many years.

"The charges stemmed from Peterson’s disciplining his 4-year-old son in May in Spring, Tex., with a small tree branch, commonly called a switch."

What Peterson admitted to is beating his son. It's child abuse, not discipline.

The abused child was his girlfriends kid - nothing "parental" about his status/role.

I think that detail makes his actions more sinister...

A quick read of some articles makes it sound a bit cloudy - although they do refer to him as "his son"...

There were references to the child calling Adrian, "Daddy Peterson" - which sounds a bit odd...

or boyfriend who lives with them and whom the child calls Daddy also, then the little boy might habitually refer to the noncustodial daddy as "Daddy Peterson.'

I don't know if this is the case, but it is possible, especially if the man the child actually lives with (if, in fact there is a man in the home) has been in the father role to him for most of the time the kid can remember.

There was a collective "Oh shit!" from the Sooner Nation.

I haven't seen the local coverage of his arrest yet. No doubt some will excuse it, saying that he's a nice guy, "but I got whupped and I turned out good", etc.

I have a feeling they kept them back so there wouldn't be. It was a sick way to find out he was a neighbor for sure. The people I have talked with are horrified and saddened.

that it was turning my posts (and my email messages) into gibberish. It took a while for me to realize that was happening, too, much to my embarrassment.

Ever since I figured out what was going on, I have been hyper aware of obvious autocorrect errors in people's posts--but I think "her" was probably just a typo of the sort that it is so easy to make when using the minuscule keyboards on a cell phone.

But you know how your mind automatically sees what is "supposed" to be there in a line, especially when you read too fast? Well, I saw "her" and my mind supplied a preposition to make the subject line make sense, and then I went looking to see who that "her" was.

As for whether or not he plays again, I don't know. A lot of people don't take this as seriously as they take the Ray Rice situation, unfortunately.

Maybe Peterson can "apologize" and "look sad" because that's all it takes (for some, at least...even here).

Ray Rice, I'm talking to you too.

And to anyone thinking I'm equating the torture of dogs and blowing your wad on starting a dogfighting ring to hitting a woman/child, congratulations! You missed the point.

Violence should be unacceptable, then, now and forever.
