Pity, since the rest of his talk is moving.

(45,984 posts)Chris Hedges is absolutely 100% correct in everything he says in this speech. My plans for 2016/17 seem to be silly: acquiesce to the nomination of the corporatist Hillary Clinton for president, vote for her over a Republican candidate who is not only a corporatist but a racist, misogynist and a sectarian bigot, then, after Mrs. Clinton is sworn in as president and makes her first pro-corporatist decision, his the streets in protest. As Mr. Hedges says, the aim of the protest is to set in motion a campaign mass civil disobedience (got that, Agent Mike?) whose goal is to overthrow the corporate state.

(8,409 posts). . . and there's a part of me that wishes I could quibble or argue with his bleak assessment. But I really cannot. Hedges is, in my view a prophet -- nor in the popular sense of being a predictor of the future, but in the Biblical sense of one who calls out what is happening in the present, and which many refuse to see.

(538 posts)And he has been very open and honest about what's ben going on. He was pissed how the anarchist took over the Occupy movement and tainted the message. I happen to believe most were plants because Occupy told the truth about Wall Street & and scared the shit out of the 1%! I can't wait to get home from work so I can watch it!

(463 posts)I am hoping we will experience a peaceful revolt instead of a violent one. Recent trends makes it likely we may face one. I've been reading Crane Brinton's The Anatomy of Revolution and it leaves me feeling unsettled. I think something will give.

(2,672 posts)Another reason the pentagon is giving away military equipment, as evidenced during the Ferguson protests, is to quell civil disobedience. A show of force, if you will, and if the populace doesn't quiet down, rubber bullets and tear gas, and if it continues, then real bullets.
I always thought that it wasn't a coincidence that the pentagon had spare military equipment laying around unused. It was specifically earmarked for police departments in major cities in the US, and if a small town wanted in too, then by all means, take some military vehicles and we'll throw in a couple of grenade launchers too.
After all, the military is going to be spread too thin so who's going to protect the corporations? Police departments with military equipment, what a coincidence, huh?

(17,320 posts)how it happened, how it functions now and how it will end. Pay attention America and you will realize who are your friends and who are your enemies. That is the first step forward.

(12,799 posts)The left, knocked off balance by decades of fierce state repression in the name of anticommunism, has yet to rebuild itself and turns on a bankrupt liberal class that has sold its soul to a bankrupt Democratic party.
