Politicians can say whatever they want to say when there is no one to hold them accountable. And they do.
The media, perhaps the biggest benefactor of political campaigns, sell their air time to the highest bidder. Billionaires contribute huge amounts of money for lying and deceiving the voters. After all, money is now free speech.
But free speech is not necessarily true. Most of the time it is not.
The media no longer believes that it is their job to call politicians on their lies and distortions. That is up to the opponent. But, as the old saying goes, a lie can travel half-way around the world while the truth is putting its shoes on...
Voters are ignorant to what is happening in Washington and in their states. They can only believe what their favorite politicians tell them. It is indeed a dangerous situation whenever lies and deceptions are given the same weight as the facts.
If the media cannot hold the liars accountable, then no one can.
