(Texas or ISIS) bans math, social studies for children

From an article that could be talking about ISIS- controlled Syria or Fundie controlled Texas, Louisiana, or Alabama.

If the violent radical Islamic fundies should ever get together with the violent radical Christian fundies here, they might find out they have a lot in common.

http://www.cnn.com/2014/09/17/world/meast/syria-crisis/index.html

(CNN) -- In swaths of Syria now controlled by ISIS, children can no longer study math or social studies. Sports are out of the question. And students will be banned from learning about elections and democracy

<snip>

Books cannot include any reference to evolution. And teachers must say that the laws of physics and chemistry "are due to Allah's rules and laws."

The fundies on the the TX School Board sure seem to have a lot in common with ISIS. It should be noted that "Allah" is actually the same God of Abraham that Jews and Christians worship. Muslims recognize Abraham, Moses and Jesus as prophets of God (aka Allah).

The fundies in TX would like to teach our children that Evolution is not settled science upon which all biology is based. They'd love to teach that all the laws of physics and chemistry are due to God's/Allah's rules and laws. I will give them some credit that they haven't tried to ban math just yet. Give them time though.

An ignorant populace is a subservient populace.

Hard to see any political point in banning math and the but they have banned some things that weren't taught in the first place:

The new curriculum even went so far as to explicitly ban Charles Darwin's theory of evolution - although it was not previously taught in Iraqi schools.

I can't find any references to ISIS/ISIL banning math.

I can't imagine how one could twist 1+1=2 into something that does not honor Allah. I'm being serious here. I'm not trying to denigrate Islam. I'm pretty sure us Western people have a biased, distorted view of Islam.

There's virtually no difference between our religious fundamentalists and theirs? OK we don't behead people, that's about the only difference. But idea wise, the American Family Association, the Taliban, and al Qaeda are really no different in their treatment of women and children.
