Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsPlease Tell Loews Hotel Group to Stop This Brutality Against Cats
This group of hotels is trapping cats on their property and then leaving these cats to suffer for days, in confinement, in near 90 degree temperatures.
This is appalling.
This cannot be the correct solution to any problem.
Please sign the petition and tell these hotels that this is intolerable cruelty. I believe this is a situation where a petition can really communicate to corporate officials that they need to change their course of action. The situation, however, is urgent!
Please help by making your voice heard on this issue.

(14,337 posts)I adopted two kittens from a shelter. Their mother was a stray who had given birth to a litter. They were found outside a restaurant which had tried to POISON all of them.
BTW, After the shelter rescued them, Mom and all of her kittens were adopted. Do you think I will ever patronize that restaurant after hearing what they tried to do? Anyone who mentions that establishment, I tell them the story of my now 2 year old brother and sister "children".

(6,578 posts)But need to check the traps every couple of hours, and then humanely deal with the trapped cats.
jsmirman
(4,507 posts)not really sure what you mean when what we are talking about here is a model TNR feral colony
dbackjon
(6,578 posts)All TNR colonies are failures - they leave the cats outdoors to terrorize the native wildlife population, and the cats still have very short life spans.
All cats should either be indoors, or dead. They have NO PLACE in the outdoors.

(2,104 posts)I'm sure it can't be legal to trap animals then treat them like this even if their ultimate end is to be put down.
Not sure if this is the correct ASPCA but it is in Orlando FL.

And there really is no reason for these animals to be put down. There are numerous alternatives.
Sorry, I missed your post and didn't respond - but, like Robin said, Alley Cat Allies can be counted on to take any possible steps - if they're calling for public pressure, there's a good reason for it. A friend of mine/law school classmate works for ACA, so this is an organization I know pretty darn well.

(2,104 posts)the aspca wasn't doing something or couldn't, Alley Cat Allies seems to be a good group with the right idea it just confuses me when there is 'no comment' on what/why the aspca isn't on this.
A petition is usually the 'last thing' we do when other avenues fail us. I just would have liked to know why/how the aspca failed in this situation and didn't see anything on it.
jsmirman
(4,507 posts)they're not in all places at once.
I could ask someone from the ASPCA's national office I'm having a sitdown with next week, if you would like, but different orgs get on top of different situations first, and different situations are best suited to different responses, it seems to me.
Alley Cat Allies tends to be highly effective, and I think they've already made *some* progress in the situation, as you can see by the animals that have been rescued after injuring themselves in the traps. I don't know how they got the right to grab those animals - they may have involved a local authority in that instance and other similar ones.
I think this is a situation where you have a company that caters to consumers looking for something pet-friendly, a company in the hospitality business - and so, public pressure is likely to be unusually effective in this situation.

(15,481 posts)phone calls. They helped my friend rescue a colony of feral cats, had them all taken to the vet, spayed, healthy, then released back to the same place they came from. Alleycats gave the cages, advice, support, etc. My friend feeds them.

(4,507 posts)I feel like there's a real chance with this one that public pressure will have an impact on them - I don't get why they are doing this, and I hope they come to their senses. Particularly when they realize that a customer-base that has viewed them positively in the past is appalled by this behavior...

(11,925 posts)May the owners and the people who left these cats to die and suffer so bad, and the people who stood by and let this abuse happen,One day be confined in a jail yard in 90+ degree heat and Baking sun. They are ignored as they dehydrate, until they succumb to heatstroke,as they draw their last raspy breaths in the dust of the prison yard, they will see no heaven, they will see Bast hissing with claws of fire ripping their ignorant souls and Ba's apart, defending her own,and may Sehkmet destroy their names and erase them as if they and that hotel chain never existed. For what they have done.If they fail to fix the abuse they do to the cats they trap asap, may this curse be their new futures.

But I'm for anyone who supports a more humane world.
It bothers me greatly when we condemn animals to conditions none among us could tolerate for even an hour, usually, in the case of factory "farm" animals, without cessation for a period of years!
