Theres a new owner and a new approach to the news at WJLA-TV, Washingtons ABC affiliate. Under the direction of its ambitious corporate parent, the stations news operations have taken a subtle but noticeable turn to the right.
... In addition to adding commentaries from Mark Hyman, an executive at Sinclair, WJLA has begun a partnership with the editorially conservative Washington Times to feature the newspapers Golden Hammer award on the air each week. The award recognizes the most egregious examples of government waste, fraud and abuse, as determined by the Times.
... The station has also begun to carry pieces produced by Sinclairs Washington bureau about national issues and federal programs. These stories have generally been critical of the Obama administration and tend to offer perspectives primarily from conservative think tanks.
... You cant run a TV station in Washington by telling government workers that theyre a bunch of criminals and crooks, said one of the stations journalists, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he said he risked being fired if identified. You cant be the anti-government channel in Washington. Theyre going to lose the trust they built up with people over years and years. (135,425 posts)was, IIRC, owned by Joe Albritton, under the Albritton communications umbrella, and it was Daddy Albritton who kicked Bill Maher's "Politically Incorrect" off that very affiliate, for him daring to say the hijackers may not have been nice guys, but they sure weren't cowards.
FWIW, those Albritton clowns own that POLITICO website. If you ever wonder why their "fair and balanced" does not feel very fair, or balanced, over there, this is why.
I guess it's time to pretty much boycott ABC news. We know them by the company they keep--if their feeder stations suck, THEY suck. And Sinclair does suck mightily.
