Why does it take a humor web site to point out "news" that is really BS?

Including the "Jack The Ripper identity solved?"

Speaks volumes about much of our "news" nowadays, though.

I have to be careful visiting there because I end up reading all the related articles until I emerge from a hours-long fog. The stuff isn't always 100% accurate but it's funny and cynical and quite often touching and tragic.
