UKIP leader Nigel Farage called on the West to ally itself with Vladimir Putin in the fight against "Islamic extremism.”

The leader of Britain's popular Euro-sceptic UK Independence Party (UKIP), Nigel Farage, has called on the West to ally themselves with Russian president Vladimir Putin for the purpose of fighting "terrorism.”

Having caused controversy in the past by admitting that Putin was the statesman he most admired, Farage told the European Parliament on Tuesday morning of his sympathetic interpretation of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as being a reaction to an uprising that Europe “directly encouraged.”

“This EU Empire, ever seeking to expand, stated its territorial claim on the Ukraine some years ago, just to make that worse of course some NATO members said they too would like the Ukraine to join Nato.

“We directly encouraged the uprising in Ukraine that led to the toppling of the president Yanukovych and that led in turn of course to Vladimir Putin reacting. And the moral of the story is if you poke the Russian bear with stick...”

UKIP is against same-sex marriage, for tax cuts and the elimination of the inheritance tax, for a large increase in defense spending, wants to weaken the NHS and introduce vouchers, wants to repeal the Human Rights Act, remove Britain from both the European Convention on Refugees and the European Convention on Human Rights, wants the UK out of the EU and NATO and blames the EU and NATO for the Ukraine crisis.

Chechnya was certainly a case in which Mr. Putin opposed ethnically distinct people who wanted independence. Of course, they wanted independence from Russia which meant that different rules applied. Plus there was no one to send in 'aid convoys' to the Chechens and no unending supply of 'captured' tanks and anti-aircraft missiles.
