Seabiscuit couldn't win.

The horse was too small.

The horse was abused.

The jockey was too big.

The jockey was blind in one eye.

The horse broke its leg.

The jockey broke his leg.

Seabiscuit couldn't win... except when he did, because he had heart.

Bernie Sanders has heart.

1. Horse races aren't decided by elections

In fact, there is an "election" held prior to a horse race.

The iron law of pari-mutuel wagering, and this has been empirically constant over decades, is that the favorite - i.e. the one receiving the most "votes" - only wins 1/3 of the time.

Elections aren't decided by the candidates, they are decided by the voters.

when most everyone else had written him off.

Most of the time elections are decided by which candidate connects with the most voters.

The candidates; do in fact have some measure of control over how many voters they connect with via their decisions, speeches and actions.

When the people believe said candidate is connecting with their concerns, they will work, volunteer and vote for that candidate, this is a true meeting of the hearts and minds.

To paraphrase President Andrew Shepard from the 1995 film "The American President:"

We have serious problems to solve, and we need serious people to solve them. And whatever your particular problem is, I promise you, [Clinton supporters are] not the least bit interested in solving it. [They are] interested in two things and two things only: making you afraid of it and telling you who's to blame for it. That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you win elections.

It's only a lighthearted analogy to say that underdogs can and do win. An encouragement for us Bernie supporters. His candidacy can change the tone of the race, even if he doesn't win.

Would you also say the same if Elizabeth Warren were thinking of running?

Your post is about your partisanship, not any "false equivalency."

the level of visuals we're reduced to?

Makes as much sense as your post.

edited to add what I said up-thread:

It was obvious to me that UJ's post was a jaunty analogy to say that underdogs can and do win. An encouragement for us Bernie supporters. Bernie's candidacy would change the tone of the race, even if he doesn't win. Btw, you have a problem with cartoons being posted on DU too?

And whoever runs against Clinton will be hyped, without a question.

If Clinton doesn't get torn down and eviscerated by the media she walks right into the White House. This is exactly what happened in 2008.

This is one reason I'm only about 50/50 that Clinton might choose not to run. She just might not want to deal with it.
