GOPer Takes Down Parts Of Website, Staffers Removed After Plagiarism Reported

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Monica Wehby's campaign seems to have scrubbed parts of her campaign website and said it fired staff after Buzzfeed reported that policy pages on the website appeared to have been plagiarized.

Buzzfeed recently reported that the health plan on the website for Wehby's campaign seemed to have been plagiarized from a survey on healthcare reform conducted by Karl Rove's Crossroads USA. Wehby, a physician, has repeatedly highlighted her medical experience to argue that it gives her a strong understanding of health care reform and Obamacare.

Separately, Buzzfeed reported that an economic plan released by the Wehby campaign seemed to have been "heavily plagiarized from multiple sources" including a section that word-for-word came from a plan produced by Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH).

(snip)
The Oregonian said that it's clear from the details offered by Wehby's campaign that that staffer was Wehby's former campaign manager, Charlie Pearce. Pearce said he did not write the policy or economic plans that Buzzfeed reported had been plagiarized.

She's not in college and this is not a term paper.

If they like her and her policies, no one is going to care that she stole this from Rove's group. For those who don't like her or her policies, this is moot anyway.

Maybe if she were running against the actual author, this would help the actual author and hurt her. Otherwise, on a scale of "It's the economy, Stupid" or war being a 10 out of a possible 10, a Republican plagiarizing from Rove's think tank could be well under .5 for voters.

I apologize to academics and, for heaven's sake, someone make sure no student ever see this post.
