‘Clinton Nostalgia Syndrome’ strikes again

http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/clinton-nostalgia-syndrome-strikes-again

When Bill Clinton was president, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) called him a “jerk” and voted (twice) to throw him out of office. But reflecting on the Clinton era last year, the Utah Republican told reporters, “f it hadn’t been for some other difficulties, [Clinton] would go down in history as a pretty darn fine president.”

This came to mind yesterday when Rep. Matt Salmon (R-Ariz.) appeared at an event organized by the No Labels organization – yes, that No Labels – and said something similar about the bygone era he still longs for.

“I started my stint under President Bill Clinton,” Salmon said, “and I’m the opposite party and I’d give my right arm to have him back right now.”

Salmon, of course, voted in favor of four articles of impeachment against Bill Clinton.

"Here's the federal government coming in and saying we'll give you money if you punish people more severely, and 28 states and the District of Columbia followed the money and enacted stricter sentencing laws for violent offenses," Travis says.

GOP members try so hard to be exceptionally hard on Clinton and Obama. Times was getting better under Clinton than under Reagan or Bush Sr. Means we have to work harder to get the Congress back to Democrat.

Bill Clinton was to the right of Obama and thought to be to the right of his wife. This would make him the right most of the three. Yet, you list him as the best President of your life. This means you prefer him to Obama who you see as to the left of HRC.

Are you sure you simply do not prefer the less troubled times of the 1990s? This is not duplicate bridge - where everyone plays the same cards.

Not to mention, in 2008, the accomplishment that Hillary cited as the one that she was most proud of was her work to get Kennedy's children's health care bill passed AND the most important (but not only) thing the NYT in April 1996 gave her credit for was persuading Bill Clinton to include money for it in his version of the budget.

I can't imagine Obama needing anyone to persuade him to include funding for legislation that had passed the House and Senate for children's health insurance.
