Police: Cardinals RB Dwyer head-butted wife

PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer head-butted his wife and broke her nose after she refused his sexual advances, and punched her in the face the next day, police said Thursday.

The details surfaced in a law enforcement report a day after Dwyer was arrested on aggravated assault charges and deactivated from all team activities after he was taken into custody at the Cardinals' headquarters in Tempe. He spent a night in jail and made a brief court appearance before being released on a $25,000 bond early Thursday.

The arrest came at a time when the NFL and its commissioner are under fire over a series of violent off-the-field encounters involving some marquee players, including Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson and Greg Hardy.

The NFL has said the Dwyer case will be reviewed under the league's personal-conduct policy.

It most certainly does seem there has been a lot of hidden domestic violence in football.

Nobody saw the warning signs before pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son, before he placed Bibles next to the bodies and hanged himself from a weight machine.

Benoit was known as “mild-mannered” to WWE officials. After the terrible murder-suicide in 2007, some questioned whether steroids or “roid rage” might have been to blame.

But Dr. Julien Bailes diagnosed another problem after looking at his brain: chronic traumatic encephalopathy or CTE — a degenerative disease that is linked to repeated jolts to the brain.

With Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson and a growing number of NFL players involved in domestic abuse grabbing headlines, it's no wonder that some are starting to ask about a possible concussion connection.

Supposedly there are some new non steroid performance enhancers that are the rage in High School. Then there is the possibility of chronic head injuries. I think the fellow who said if he had a son he would not let him play football was on to something.

But HGH testing on way.
Roid rage is overblown. Many have no such rage after taking - though some do. But he would get popped on a drug test, NFL has good roid policies.
Hidden, so correct. Typical privileged thug mentality here. My woman or you will be no ones woman. Been given break all his life due to football skills, call it football privilege. Thinks he can do whatever he wants. Short NFL lifespan, sees it slipping away, lashes out as trophy wives abandon....
Tired old story getting new life in a new age. Lot to change.

... that this is all related to the way gifted athletes are treated starting in high school. Their every whim is catered to and I think they get used to that and when the real world intrudes they cannot handle it.

That is in no way excusing their behavior but at some level hero-worship of athletes is at play here.
