TIPPECANOE COUNTY -

A man faces sentencing Friday in the murder of a fellow Purdue University student, but the motive is still unknown.

Cody Cousins pleaded guilty to killing 21-year-old Andrew Boldt in January. News that a student was attacked inside the electrical engineering building sent shockwaves across the West Lafayette campus. Students didn't initially know what happened.

Eventually police learned Cousins was behind it all. Authorities had evidence, including a gun and a knife tying Cousins to the brutal crime.

Cousins would go on to plead guilty to stabbing and shooting Andrew Boldt in a classroom full of students. But eight months later, Cousins' motive remains a mystery.

"We don't know why Mr. Cousins did it. That's highly unusual. Motive has never been disclosed by anyone," said defense attorney Jack Crawford, who commented on the case Thursday.
