People touching other's lives

I reflected today on the above. I remember from my childhood my gay neighbor, Mr. M., who always came to see me and brought me presents back from his travels. He shaped my life with his kindness, and the discrimination brought down upon him simply because he choose to love someone (for over 30 years) society did not approve of, taught me a real life lesson as a child. I will always remember him.

I remember my 50 something year old neighbor 30 years ago who told me to bring my colicky daughter over to her house so I could get a break. "Come sit and have a cup of coffee with me to relax, or just leave her with me, and take a nap, chill out, or go for a walk". Did she HAVE to do this? Of course not. I will always remember her.

I remember my 70 something childless neighbor who was always inviting the neighborhood children into her house for cookies and a chat, even while caring for her invalid husband, and sister. The neighborhood kids all loved her. When they grew up and moved away, they called and came back to see her. She made a major impression on young lives.

I remember today my husband's coworker, despite his own problems after a horrible divorce, legal issues, and now a Single Dad, always willing to help others. After my husband's heart attack, he called me every single day asking how he could help me. While there wasn't much he could do, I certainly appreciate his concern knowing that I was all alone in this state.

My point in this post? Nobody will ever know these people's names. They are not rich and famous who will touch the lives of millions of people with jobs, products, or fame. Yet, these little people are the salt of the earth, and great and true Americans. They are what this country is all about. Giving to other people whatever their religion is, or wherever they came from. I genuinely hope that there is someone out there who will say the same about me. All the money and fame in the world cannot compare to this.

Never forget these people in your life.

because i'm like that.

the notion of that these are little people is absurd. the notion that anyone is a little person is equally absurd. people are not little. people have thoughts and dreams and feelings and ideas that we may have convinced them are not worthy of praise or attention through our systems of economics and governance, but we're wrong. no one is little, everyone should be on the cover of a magazine. everyone has a story. this is the effects of unchecked capitalism on a society. people believe themselves to be little.

a capitalist would turn this into a book. "big people" with a cover of some grandmother or something that would sell. capitalism is inherently manipulative and those who participate in the system practiced in the u.s. are at best dupes, at worst they are monsters. the system you utilize to turn your luck of genetics into consumerist playtime is the same system that incarcerates millions and holds millions more in poverty destroying childhoods and lives all over america.

capitalism rely's on irrational emotion to make people buy. those same irrational emotions come to dictate the decisions people make in their lives and environments. if you want to see the effects of capitalism on a society look at some american statistics and compare them to a socialist societies statistics. a real socialist society not what you've been told is a socialist society by your capitalist masters. look at iceland.

when i look around here i see shallowness and greed posing as ambition, shamelessness posing as confidence, and marketing posing as knowledge.

Thank you for reminding me of all the people who have been the lights in my life. Your post was so beautiful to acknowledge how much kindness means. It doesn't have to be big, but it will be remembered.
