The World Health Organization, WHO, has commended efforts by the Nigerian government in containing the spread of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease.Speaking during an Emergency session of the United Nations Security Council on Ebola, on Thursday, the Director General, WHO, Margaret Chan, told participants to take a cue from the stable conditions in Nigeria and Senegal.
She said that the disease which could be contained will take some time.
It will take some time, but the Ebola outbreak can be contained. Look at the stable situation in Nigeria and Senegal, Ms. Chan said.

Following the outbreak of the disease, Nigeria recorded 19 confirmed cases with 12 survivors and seven deaths. The last case of the disease was successfully discharged on September 10 from the Ebola Isolation Center.
After weeks of fighting the deadly disease, Nigeria celebrates one week as an Ebola free country.

(3,764 posts)They are being overly optimistic. The incubation period is 2-21 days. I've read that you really have to have 42 days (double the incubation period) to be out of the woods with ebola. Hopefully, they will be correct and everything will be ok.

(18,115 posts)discharged. Meaning that it has been longer, likely more than 21 days, since any NEW cases have been reported. They contained it.
If there is another case in Nigeria, it will be due to a new arrival, not the Patrick Sawyer line.

(9,766 posts)they might want to hold off on the awards ceremony until the countries they share a border with are clear.
It things don't improve, the population is going to get more and more desperate...good luck keeping them out then.

(101,161 posts)It's Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and now Senegal, over in the far west of Africa, and, in a new but unrelated outbreak, the DRC - all those countries are 1000km or more away from Nigeria.
