A likely fact about the future that sickens me.

When clean energy is the only energy, when electric transport is the only transport, and there is no longer any financial incentive to deny climate change, conservatives will insist it was liberals who denied it and try to blame the state of the environment on liberalism.

Conservatism follows the money, always, and the money behind clean energy will be more than all the money that ever existed in fossil fuels combined. Plus, as a heavy infrastructure industry, it wouldn't have the same kind of intrinsic cultural aversions for them that most of Silicon Valley does.

it assumes that we will make the transition to an all-renewable-resources economy and, having done so, we will continue to have open political controversy as before. Pessimists might see an ecological collapse and political disintegration. Dictatorship of some kind would be a slightly less pessimistic view. I do hope that the original post was right -- that we and the conservatives really will survive and live in a world that allows us to disagree on whose fault all those problems were, that we have since solved!

penetrates into the economy. I.e., less likely every day.

We're still in a critical transitional period, but I would start breathing somewhat easier if/when (knock on wood) Tesla has three Gigafactories and clean energy has about 10% of the market.

That's not nearly enough to avert radical climate change, but it's enough to form a durable, self-sustaining economic kernel if society were suddenly disrupted.

So, I am an optimist, but my scenario is not optimistic - it's my objective conclusion.

More troubling to me than these denials was a joke Baker made when a liberal caller phoned in to argue with him. Baker dubbed him a “borderline school shooter,” reducing the horror of gun violence against America’s children to a cheap political joke. School shooters are all liberals, the absurd urban legend says, and so anyone who rails against Baker is the problem. No need to entertain life-saving policy changes; the problem isn’t gun accessibility, the listener can think, it’s those liberals.

because conservatives will still control everything that is privately owned and thusly will control the dialogue. The american liberal is a fool who knows not where his allegiance lies. Capitalism is their enemy and they still can't figure that out.

But, then again, I'd suspect that by then, when clean transport finally dominates and clean energy is on top of the hill, conservatism, as we knew it, will probably have permanently receded into the sunset, never to really return.
