We have yet another name for ISIS, ISIL, IS...

It's "Issle".

I first heard this version of the terrorist org's name from National Security Advisor Susan Rice and again today by Amb. Samantha Power.

So, what is their actual name? I have no idea.

The French foreign ministry released a statement earlier this week referencing the Islamic State group as "Daesh." The new moniker is a transliteration of an acronym of the group's Arabic name "al-Dawla al-Islamiya fi al-Iraq wa al-Sham. It is also similar to the Arabic word that means "to trample."
from here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/09/19/isis-daesh-france_n_5850280.html

Trampling, having to do with feet, soles of feet, shoes, is problematic. As a pun, it's kind of on the level of a "yo momma" joke.

now there is apparently lots of chatter about a possible attack inside the U.S.

That's funny because yesterday and in the past couple of days I've been ensured by our masters that there are no credible threats against The Homeland based on low chatter volume.

for retrieval as the war drums get louder.
Al I know is that last year, Obama wanted to attack Syria but could not get enough popular support for it
and this spring IS-whatever popped up, there has been lots of news about how bad they are
yet
when there was WH talk of "helping" out Iraq, Malaki promptly said no thanks, we got this.
Following that, there was suddenly talk about Malaki needing to go away.

July of this year....news headline:
Iraq PM al-Malaki scorns calls for his resignation
"I will never give up the nomination for the post of prime minister," he said in a statement issued by his office.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/iraq-pm-al-malaki-scorns-calls-for-his-resignation-1.2696128

One month later:
Iraq Has New Leadership, Al-Malaki Will Step Aside
http://www.npr.org/2014/08/15/340562882/iraq-has-new-leadership-al-malaki-will-step-aside

And NOW all the talk is how we are going to spend millions on "moderate" Syrian rebels, the ones that are fighting Assad.
And how we are going to have a few thousand "advisors" in Iraq, to show Iraqis where to aim their guns.

Plus it has gotten strangely quiet, news wise, about Afghanistan.

McCain and Lindsey Graham ( Bill Maher called him the "Blanche Dubois of the Republican Party&quot are all busy telling us we will have ISIS slitting out throats in the grocery stores here.....

I am waiting for an "I told you so" incident in this country.

with no direct English equivalent, there is never really one "right" way to translate. Although I wish we could all just pick one and stick with it.
