A columnist in Devon, England, working under the pseudonym Grave Turner, wrote in an opinion piece that homosexuality would cause the collapse of civilization. The article in the South Molton News prompted many complaints, as well as a response from the editor that the column was published as an aspect of free speech, not out of agreement with the content.

As I sit here, civilization still exists, and gay people still exist, so... there's that.

Civilization should be gone by now considering all the things we were told would make it collapse. I don't think it's fair to put the responsibility on the gays, but if that's what happens, well, I wish they would just step on it. I'm tired of waiting.

Strangely enough, now that I know what Mr. Turner thinks but is too chicken to own as his opinion, I still don't care.

But I will say that the editor of the South Molton News is a big chicken, too.

8. Depends on your definition of civilised.

If one part of your definition of "civilisation" is the observation of conservative religious/sexual mores - which I suspect for some people it is - then that's quite true.
