White House Fence-Jumper Omar Gonzalez Held Without Bail

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/white-house-fence-jumper-omar-gonzalez-held-without-bail-n208626

<snip>
The man accused of scaling the White House security fence and charging into the First Family’s home with a knife, also had two hatchets and a machete, as well as 800 rounds of ammunition in his vehicle nearby, prosecutors said at an initial hearing on Monday. And this isn’t the first time he’s been caught menacing the building.

<snip>
Prosecutors also revealed that Gonzalez had been stopped on August 25 while walking along the south fence of the White House with a hatchet in his waistband, but he was not arrested.

And on July 19, after being spotted driving recklessly in a grey Ford Bronco, Gonzalez was charged in Wythe County, Virginia, with evading arrest and possession of a weapon after he was found in possession of numerous weapons, including a sawed-off shotgun, and map with the White House circled, prosecutors said.

The Army says Gonzalez served from 1997 until his discharge in 2003, and again from 2005 to December 2012, when he retired due to disability.

1. OK, so the video says the door was left unlocked and the trained guard dogs

hadn't been let loose. Doesn't quite sound right to me. I would have thought that someone would be going around and checking locks. Our safety guys do it here at work on a nightly basis, and we're a school. IMO, not releasing the guard dogs to do their jobs is kinda like the stand down of the jets on 9/11.

Just sayin....

3. Secret Service apparently assumed he wasn't armed.

But they were wrong. He had a knife on him.
He also had ammunition, hatchets and machete in his car.
Next time they assume it can end badly.

"He allowed authorities to search his car, where police say they found more than 800 rounds of ammunition in boxes and magazines. They also found two hatchets and a machete in his car."

Sick people!

As much as I didn't like Bush and thought he was a drunken frat-boy, I never would have said that about him. I guess that's just another difference between a Liberal and a Conserva-T-partier.

2. Back in July, he was discovered with a "mini-arsenal" of weapons....

<snip>
...Among the items found in Mr. Gonzales’ vehicle in July was a mini-arsenal of 11 guns including two shotguns and four rifles, some equipped with scopes and bipods that a sniper would use and “a map of Washington, D.C., with writing and a line drawn to the White House,” law enforcement officials said. He also had four pistols, three of them loaded, and a revolver. The inventory of Mr. Gonzales’ vehicle listed by the Virginia State Police indicates the items were found stored in his vehicle’s “bulky floor.”
