I used to shop in a store that had tons of CDs and was a hipster hangout. There were always 5-10 used copies of A Love Supreme for sale, because the hipsters thought they should be listening to him but turned up their noses at Blue Trane and such.

Myself, I respect Coltrane of course but prefer rounder sounds, like Hank Mobley, some Joe Henderson, Junior Cook...

It is really hard for me to get my head around the concept that Coltrane disappointed "hipsters." That's like saying Miles wasn't "cool."

Most of them want to love free jazz, until they hear it.

What they wanted was a poster of the album cover, not the album itself.

Not a big jazz aficionado, but there are nights I just want to pull out some of my old jazz LPs I've owned for decades and chill out with a few cold ones.

Off the top of my head...

Kind of Blue
Soul Station
The Blues and the Abstract Truth
Smokin' at the Half Note

and of course more.

How about a list of things similar you could recommend. Now that I'm retired there is plenty of time to play some new tunes.

Edit: Other than the ones you listed. I have all but one of those I think.
