Airline Launches World's Cutest Lost and Found Service

By Karla Cripps, CNN

- Warning: After seeing this achingly adorable video of KLM's newest employee in action you might be tempted to leave your gadgets behind on your next flight into Amsterdam.

Meet Sherlock, the appropriately named beagle tasked by the Royal Dutch Airlines with returning items forgotten on planes by passengers flying into Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

"We train for muscle strength, endurance and, of course, socialization," says Dirk Van Driel, Sherlock's trainer.

"When you see the reactions of the passengers, that really is amazing."

Judging by the collective "awww" that rings out through the arrivals hall as Sherlock uses his remarkable sniffing powers to track down the owner of a forgotten iPhone, the dog is a hit.

Dogs, more than any other mammal, want to be our partners. They want to be symbiotes with humans. They totally "get" this.

They're waiting for us to figure it out.

Gradually, we're expanding beyond the 'hunting and herding companions' model. Service dogs were an important step.

We're on the verge of diagnostic partnerships in health care-- yes, dogs can sense the presence of some diseases way more accurately and reliably than any chemical tests we have devised.

Those who know and love dogs, of course, have been aware of this for a long time. Dogs are an enormous reservoir of biological potentiation, AND it's wrapped in a package of unconditional love, willing partnership, and focused intelligence.

All we need to do is learn how to unlock it, and provide love, care, consideration and respect in return.

AND stop breeding them into biologically unsustainable morphologies in the name of some weird status ritual thing.

appreciatively,
Bright

to sniff out produce that's not allowed to be shipped to the mainland. Once I forgot I had some apple bananas (a popular local variety), and they caught me in the nick of time. I could have unwittingly destroyed new Jersey's multibillion-dollar banana crop.

EVERY airline needs to do this. Seriously. I would actually think about flying more if they did, and I'm not kidding, either.

Get ready for my first use of the "Smilies" button: (I like to think he's shouting "Woot! Woot! Wooooooot!&quot

doing what he likes to do -- grab things in his mouth, smell around and jump on people. And everyone loves him for it. What a perfect match between need and service.

The Dutch do it again.

AMSTERDAM — It was all a lie.

KLM airlines does not actually employ the world’s most adorable beagle to find lost iPhones at the airport in Amsterdam.

It was all a marketing stunt.

In an interview given to a Dutch news organization the company confirmed the disappointing news.

“A real dog, such as seen in the promo film that KLM launched on Twitter today, is not a part of the Lost & Found team.”

Global advertising agency DDB & Tribal Worldwide is responsible for creating the video.

And the internet wept for what could have been.
