How do you see all the stars and think theres nothing else out there? he continued.
Its so incredible arrogant and pompous. Its amazing that there are people who really believe that. Its unbelievable....
With no conversion, theres no conviction. And with no conviction, theres only confusion. You understand what Im saying? If you dont believe there is a change that is due to you then you will never, ever find it. Change wont come and tap you on the shoulder. You have to be open for change.

(27,461 posts)most people these days understand that people have different beliefs. This person's chauvinism is out of the ordinary.

(50,566 posts)are people who think that there is an omnipotent supernatural creature that rules everything in a multi-billioned-galaxy universe, yet concerns itself primarily with one little species of primate on one little planet in one little galaxy and -- coincidentally -- these primates LOOK like this deity! Also, the events of the last 2,000 years on one section of this planet are the most important things that have ever happened anywhere in the universe in its multi-billion year history.
What a myopic and incredibly narcissistic view THAT is, eh Pharrell?

(5,158 posts)I personally believe in a higher power, but I have respect for people with differing views. To think your views are the only views that are right or acceptable, is what I find to be "arrogant and pompous".

He sounds charming, though.
Not smart, but charming.

(23,664 posts)I still don't know much about Mr Williams but I know I won't be delving further into his body of work.
Some cool scenes in the video but the music sounds like overproduced feel good pap.
And for the record I believe there is a creator but I don't believe he thinks of humans as anything but the latest improved model of the amoeba. A work in progress as it were.

(9,186 posts)Let me see, billions of years of creation or magic white-haired man in the sky who loves you! But tells you to kill your kids if they misbehave...He flooded the world because his creation did not do his bidding...but he LOVES YOU!
He let the white man kill native Americans so we could have their land. he let is kill how many millions for gold and diamond mines.
His churches say being rich and demonizing the poor and marginal people is God's will even though He allegedly said:
it will be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than Mitt Romney to get into heaven. Or something like that

(176 posts)i always say the mythical and magical white-haired man in the sky is really no better than any other abuser on earth. "he" judges, beats people down, oppresses, and then if we don't bow to "his" every whim, we get to live out our lives in mayhem and turmoil and in the end "he" will send us to a "fiery lake" for all eternity for being disobedient. all this is done in the name of love (which is what most abusers tell their victims). i'm sure that with all the money pharell has made with his mediocre at best music, he feels really great that the white-haired sky daddy has truly favored him.

(10,893 posts)but obviously not all are like that. What I don't like are the people (believers and non-believers alike) who think that their own perspective is the one and only correct path, and they berate others. I'm surprised at the lack of insight that Pharrell showed here, and he might end up getting quite a bit of hate mail for this comment.

I still enjoy your happy song. I've sung "If your happy and you know it" with enough kids to appreciate a new updated version.
You may think your talent was given by god. But I think it came from highly evolved vocal cord system and the brain to use it.
Keep up with those conversations, maybe you will learn a lot!

(8,879 posts)It's free from doubt. I believe the sun is going to rise tomorrow morning. I think people who might disbelieve that are a bit crazy. I have no basis to believe the sun will rise tomorrow except that it's happened billions of times before. I guess we have some good scientific explanations as well but those are based upon other tenuous beliefs as well.
I can see how, to a believer, disbelief would be unconscionable.

(56,219 posts)that's the basic argument, that nature is so awesome, so intricate, so wonderful, that there must be some mythical being behind it all.
to me, that's an insult to nature. to me, nature is not nearly so awesome if some omnipotent being created it. i mean, if god can create anything, then nothing is really all that impressive, is it.
to me, the very thing that's so impressive about nature is that all this stuff happens naturally, over time, through through the constant application of consistent physical laws. humans are all the more impressive when we understand that we are millions of years in the making, having evolved gradually from single celled organisms.
but if we're just the product of a magic trick by a being that could have just as well created a rather different universe, then reality is hardly impressive.
