Dear DU,
I have been reading this site for many years now. I must say it has been enlightening to say the least.
I must admit that sometimes I just lol.
I thank my supporters here. We are all working against the odds to make this world a better place. No, it has not been easy. We have a Congress that wishes America to fail. I sit alone in my office trying to make headway with executive orders, it is not enough. It never will be. We need to vote in 2014 if we want some of the change we seek. I can not do this alone. I need a functioning Congress.
I never promised unicorns and rainbows, though some believe I did. I also never said it would be easy, now did I.
Remember my words in 2008:
The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even one term, but America I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you we as a people will get there.
There will be setbacks and false starts. There are many who won't agree with every decision or policy I make as President, and we know that government can't solve every problem. But I will always be honest with you about the challenges we face. I will listen to you, especially when we disagree. And above all, I will ask you join in the work of remaking this nation the only way it's been done in America for two-hundred and twenty-one years block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand.
What began twenty-one months ago in the depths of winter must not end on this autumn night. This victory alone is not the change we seek it is only the chance for us to make that change. And that cannot happen if we go back to the way things were. It cannot happen without you.
So let us summon a new spirit of patriotism; of service and responsibility where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves, but each other. Let us remember that if this financial crisis taught us anything, it's that we cannot have a thriving Wall Street while Main Street suffers in this country, we rise or fall as one nation; as one people.

Thanks to all you DU folks.
God Bless you all and God Bless the United States of America

(55,981 posts)point.
Since he pleaded for Congress to do their Constitutional duty and they didn't, he then took it upon his own self to expand the war in Syria. I looked and the Constitution doesn't say that if the President isn't happy with the way Congress is doing their job, he can wage war all on his own.
"You're so transparent." I am sure you meant to disparage me but I will accept it. I am transparent and I think my transparency shows that I don't like having a president that unilaterally invades other countries. I didn't like it when Bush/H.Clinton did it and I don't like it know. Maybe you can rationalize killing and bombings and deaths, but I can't.

(55,981 posts)Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 of the United States Constitution, sometimes referred to as the War Powers Clause, vests in the Congress the power to declare war, in the following wording:
[The Congress shall have Power...] To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;

How hypocritical that some here that were outraged when George the Dim-Son abused the Constitution but now fine with it when Pres Obama does it. Of course they are conservatives the lot.

(83,655 posts)Who banks a $174,000 annual salary and works less than a third of the year?
Members of the House of Representatives, apparently.
The 2014 calendar for the House was released Thursday by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), and shows members will only work only 113 days. That's down from 2013, when House lawmakers were scheduled to meet for 126 days. Only 107 days were scheduled in 2012.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called attention to the House's sparsely populated 2013 schedule in July 2013, highlighting the fact that the House had only nine workdays scheduled for September.
HuffPost reported in July that the 113th Congress was on pace to be the least productive in history. Many House members are running for reelection in the 2014 midterm elections and will spend part of their time campaigning.

Um... you need to be railing against the republi-CON Congress.
Those guys who hate working Monday through Friday as Nancy Pelosi MADE THEM DO when she ran the place. Oh NO! They have to have Fridays off and Mondays off, and maybe they'll give us an hour or two on Tuesdays and Thursdays when they're either on their way back in or trying to get outta there for another long weekend? Trying to spread fear out there among the public - anybody remember some dude we called "FDR"? Anybody remember one of his signature statements - about "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself" ? Fear! Fear! Fear! Be AFRAID, America!
Frankly, I REFUSE to be afraid. Especially if the lindsey grahams and john mccains and the scott "IDIOT" browns their ilk are all talking about how we MUST be afraid? Then I REFUSE.
I agree with you about the warmongers and the MIC. But when President Obama has a "Congress" that just refuses to play ANY kind of ball with him - simply BECAUSE they refuse to stop being SORE LOSERMEN, then I just can't go there. He should go ahead without 'em. FUCK 'EM. He's been trying to get these assholes and weasels and Sore Losermen to play ball ever since he got to the Oval Office the first time, and they've refused. Every time he's extended his hand, they've spit in it (or worse - just change the letter "p" . So FUCK 'EM. And not just on this. America's got work to do, problems to solve, and roadblocks to MOVE OUT OF THE WAY (like all the poor-sportsmanship poster children and human hurdles in "Congress" . Including this. Including everything else, too. And by now, I say - leave 'em all behind. Do it yourself, Mr. President. I'd rather you NOT do all that much over there on this particular subject, frankly. But get something done, Mr. President. You're the only person we can really count on to get anything done and say anything but "no" all the time.

(9,126 posts)While bombs are dropping emblazoned with an American flag--the flag of my country--and innocents are dying: women, children, the elderly, mothers, fathers, grandparents, I could not find the proper word to describe this misguided attempt at snark. Appalling, disgusting, cold-hearted, and chilling came to mind, but those could not drown out the weeping from those who will die whether they are killed by our "freedom fighters" or ISIL. They do not have any protection, they have no shelter, they were only born in the wrong place at the wrong time. They will die and the survivors will weep. And they will die in your name and mine, with weapons paid for by my labor and yours. To care that they lived and wish they would not die is not a "pony."
But the one thing that NEVER came to mind was ROFL. Not EVER.

1.

noun
1.
concern for oneself before others.
Amazing. Your interpretation of my OP as snark boggles my mind. And here you are only focused on ISIL. My OP covered far more than current events. It had to do with the every day bashing of this President.
ISIL. Yes that is bad, how do you wish to address what GWB got us into? Shall we walk away? Shall we ignore what BushCo created?" Shall we just wash our hands and then say that they are clean?
Our hands are dirty, do we just walk away from the death that we have caused?

Dear gawd do you call out posters here everyday that bash this President!? Shameful is calling the President a POS. Oh and so many more here. So many disgusting posts and you call what I posted shameful?

Wake up BrotherIvan
BrotherIvan
(9,126 posts)That means that people, including civilians, are dying. Do you think snark is appropriate? Do you not see how chilling it is that Americans can support and wage war because it does not affect them? The fact that your day to day life is not affected (outwardly) at all as we enter yet another war so that it is easy to make jokes about "ponies and rainbows" and condescend to those who are calling for peace? That this is the very reason why our country is reviled by the rest of the world?
A serious question, and this is not political, but personal--human to human: how would you feel if the people you loved were being bombed right now? Would you still have posted the same OP?
You tell me to wake up, but my friend's wife is near hysterical because her family is there and she can't contact them. They are most likely dead or will be soon. But it would not matter if I did not personally know someone. I know it is not appropriate to make jokes at a funeral. PEOPLE ARE DYING, killed by our bombs. Americans--rich, fat, soft, coddled Americans--have no idea what the wars they cheer on actually mean, what they cost in grief and suffering. So yes, I think this post is very inappropriate and makes those who call themselves "Democrats" look as tribal and callous as conservatives.

They remind me of Marlon Brando's character in the movie "The Wild One".
Especially in that 1 part where the girl asks Brando why his gang is being so wild.
Mildred: Hey Johnny, what are you rebelling against?
Johnny: Whaddaya got?
"Whaddaya got?"
Ain't that the truth.
Against anything and everything.
From Obama wearing a tan suit to Obama holding on to his coffee cup while saluting some Marines.
Every day.
Every single day of the week.
Every week of the month.
Week after week, month after month.
But, hey, they gots to do what they gots to do.
They don't hate ya, they're just ticked off because you're not afraid of 'em.
Yet, there are only 40 days until the mid-term elections are here.
So, what are they going to say if the Republicans still retain control of the House of Representatives for the next 2 years?
Because that is what is at stake here these days.
I'll tell you what they'll say, they'll say that it isn't their fault.
They'll say, "I live in a blue state and the people I voted for are all Democrats, and all of them were re-elected."
More "neener, neener" crap.
And then they'll criticize someone like me, who does not live in a blue state, and they'll say, "its your fault that the Republicans were re-elected in your state!"
Yet, I don't make many posts here during the day.
I don't have the time for that sort of crappola.
And I'm also not here during the day whining about the President.
Not at all.
Last weekend I distributed flyers for one of the Democratic candidates running for US Congress.
And I volunteered to distribute flyers on Wednesday for the Democratic candidate for Governor.
I had most of Wednesday afternoon off from work, so I was available.
But, the weather forecast last Friday said it was going to rain this Wednesday.
Yet, rain don't bother me none, so I signed up for it right away anyway.
However, it didn't rain, not one drop at all.
Instead, the winds shifted on Tuesday afternoon, and it was a gorgeous day here on Wednesday.
The temperature even hit 95º.
So, there I was, walking around my neighborhood in beautiful weather, distributing flyers, doing what I gots to do.
We have half a chance of actually getting Democrats elected to high office this year because the Republican party is so torn apart because of the demands of the state's Tea Party coalition clashing with the moderate stances the established Republicans have stood for the last 2 decades.
So, I am not about to let this golden "once in a lifetime" opportunity pass me by.
Don't let the bastards get you down, sheshe2.
sheshe2
(83,655 posts)You stand half a chance to get Dems elected in your state? That sounds pretty good. Your efforts can make that change.
And I refuse to listen to the polls that say that the GOP are going to be the winners. Not if I can help it. We need to vote as if our lives depend upon it, because they do.
I am in a blue state. Yet we cannot sit on our butts and think Dems will win whether we vote or not. The last time that happened we got Scott Brown for Senator!!!! So far it looks good for a Dem Governor here and Senator Markey to get re-elected. I have to say that our primary a few weeks ago, my polling place was crowded. I hope all Dem voters in every state are so motivated.
And for those refusing to vote because their candidate is not progressive enough, well they become part of the problem and not the solution.
Thank you for all your hard work, Major!
