Is Hong Kong on the verge of another Tiananmen Square or Cultural Revolution?

HONG KONG — In his black T-shirt, shorts and flip flops, Joshua Wong could be just another Hong Kong high school student.

But the 17-year-old has fast become the bête noire of China’s state media — they have called him an extremist and a buffoon in response to his leadership of student protests demanding greater democracy in the former British colony now ruled by China.

IMO, this new connected generation is coming of age but...China has almost totally erased all reference to the evil events of Tiananmen.

Hopefully the old guard of China has learned something also.

The current Occupy Central seems to be an outgrowth of the 2011-12 Occupy Central. Someone who's more knowledgeable can correct me.

was a long drawn out affair over many years.

It looks like it is headed towards a Tiananmen, but with with social media these days China will find it harder to try to cover up (and it failed back in 1989 to do so with no social media)

purge of anyone who dared to defy Mao's version of communism. I doubt that's what the protesters in Hong Kong are aiming for.
