But the 17-year-old has fast become the bête noire of Chinas state media they have called him an extremist and a buffoon in response to his leadership of student protests demanding greater democracy in the former British colony now ruled by China.

IMO, this new connected generation is coming of age but...China has almost totally erased all reference to the evil events of Tiananmen.
Hopefully the old guard of China has learned something also.

It looks like it is headed towards a Tiananmen, but with with social media these days China will find it harder to try to cover up (and it failed back in 1989 to do so with no social media)
