Well, is everyone afraid of the subway threat, yet?
Bomb, bomb, bomb,
bomb, bomb, Iran. ![]() A response of mine from below I think New Yorkers might have reason to fear But when you want to wage war, it's good to instill some fear. How in the heck do ordinary citizens know which threats are real threats and which aren't? This is not to make light of any thing that could happen or has happened, but many here seem darn sure that the military industrial complex and other assorted corporatists will do anything to get us into war. Questioning threats is a natural result of that belief. |

I might agree with you they are running to the bank over the last 13 years.
BUT, It wasn't the MIC that beheaded James Foley It's not becuause of the MIC why EVERY New Yorker looked up for 5 years after a plane flew over And I'm sorry to say it wasn't the MIC at the podium of the UN yesterday. And while your criticism is valid, don't be surprised if your words touch a raw nerve that every New Yorker cotinues to live with every time we swipe our metro card. Yes, are we getting on the train. 45. I won't pile on...
I will say I ride the Los Angles Metro (subway) every day. In fact I am leaving my home in Woodland Hills (suburban Los Angeles) to meet my girlfriend in downtown Los Angles in a half hour or so. The trip takes approximately one and one half hours. Approximately one hour is spent on a dedicated bus line and the the other half hour is spent on the subway.
There are a few exceptions but most of those poo pooing the threat don't rely on the subway to meet their transportation needs. BTW, I used to ride the NY subway all the time as a kid. It was scary in the 70s. |

And no offense (pile on) taken if that was directed at me.
Their is a way to get the point across. And truth be told, this threat probably is bullshit, which frankly does more to trust in the President than my fear of boarding a train. However, after Madrid and London and I think Tokyo if memory serves, not to mention 9/11, everyone one the millions of New Yorkers that take the train feel the, albeit, slight presence. Yeah, can't imagine what the 70's were like, but my wife and inlaws tell me about the 80's. |

But subways seem like a juicy target and they have been hit before.
The L A Sheriff dept has a huge presence on the subway. And those deputies are jacked. However the transit police seems to be more concerned that your tap card is valid. |

http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/isis-terror/iraqi-report-isis-subway-threat-knocked-down-n211496
"A wide range of U.S. intelligence sources told NBC News that there is no evidence of any current threat against the subways, after Iraq’s prime minister told reporters that ISIS is plotting an imminent attack. In a meeting with journalists at the United Nations, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said he had just learned of the plot by foreign fighters of the Islamic State group in Iraq to attack subway systems in the U.S. and Paris. He said it had not been thwarted and that the United States had been alerted.... snip.. Virtually every major U.S. law enforcement agency and intelligence agency said they had no evidence of any such plot. The report is viewed as "total bunk," according to a senior intelligence official. |

49. Not from me - and I'm in NYC
The new normal is: There's always National Guard troops in Penn Station and Grand Central. Occasionally there's heavily armed robo-cops in front of the Chrysler Building. On every subway ride they run a recorded announcement: "if you see something say something."
And to accompany the traditional late September traffic jams due to the U.N. opening, the NYPD anti-terrorism elves put big concrete blocks in front of the Hyatt Grand Central. Kinda impedes the heavy pedestrian traffic but it is what it is. My point is, NYC is on every terrorist's short list regardless of what this guy says. Nevertheless, I feel I'm much more likely to be hit by a reckless cyclist than blown up by a terrorist. |

55. With vast respect for all the people who ride the subway daily, I think it's hype.
The Iraqi PM claims something is verifiable which they've been told by a prisoner and even our own intelligence people say they've not heard peep about? It sounds very much to me like he's trying to escalate our involvement by using fear on US citizens.
This may be an unpopular opinion, but so be it. It's what I thought when I first read the story today and I'm going with my gut. Think about it, when is the last time the US has real intelligence on a terror plot and some warmonger didn't get it leaked to them and come out screaming how the Democrats are soft on terror and we were all going to die because of them? Heck, they'd even do that if it were a bogus rumor going around. I just find this to be too suspect to believe it's genuine. |
