as the new Attorney General.
Of course Obama would probably never pick him.
Even if Obama did pick him, the corporate owned Republicans would go into filibuster in overdrive.
But for a few moments I can dream can't I?

(9,126 posts)The administration would not ever choose someone controversial. It's too bad, he would have been excellent.

(725 posts)But as noted, Democrats have dumped him for life. I've never understood why redemption is only for republicans. How many bankers could Eliot have put away by now?!

(30,674 posts)How about Nader? The fact is nobody willing to prosecute Wall Street will be nominated. And I'll be surprised if they don't filibuster EVERY nominee indefinitely. After all, they just get away with it over and over.

(30,674 posts)I'd hate to see Russ get filibustered like they filibustered Wellstone.
If they want to stop our nominee, they will. Obama will play it safe and nominate someone they like. They will still do everything they can to stop him.

(31,986 posts)51 votes are all that is needed now. Obama should appoint someone promptly since he has known for months of this resignation.

Nevertheless, I hope you are right. What's to stop him from appointing a liberal?
Let's say it's twelve "Dem" senators who love to vote Republican.
My bet is on the most conservative person around. And Obama loves Repubs on the cabinet, he does it all the time. Peggy Pritzker got through, but she's both a Repub and a multibillionaire.
I've given up the hope that there will be true justice in the US in my lifetime.

(31,986 posts)I doubt "no drama" Obama wants much controversy at this point and I think he will pick a safe nominee. Best bets at this point are Donald Verrilli who is Solicitor General, Kathryn Ruemmler who was Obama's White House Counsel, or Preet Bharara who is U.S. Attorney for the southern district of New York. All would be safe picks.

Those confirmation hearings would be just as much fun.
