"No Boots on the Ground," my ass.

WASHINGTON — The 1st Infantry Division headquarters will deploy to Iraq soon as the U.S. military steps up its campaign against Islamic State militants, the Pentagon said Thursday.

It will be the first division headquarters assigned to Iraq since U.S. forces withdrew from the country at the end of 2011.

About 500 soldiers from the Fort Riley, Kan.-based division will be heading for the Middle East next month with about 200 of them going to Iraq, Pentagon press secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby said.

“They’re going to provide command and control of the ongoing advise-and-assist effort in support of Iraqi and peshmerga forces. And they’re going to continue to help us all degrade and destroy ISIL,” Kirby told reporters, referring to the Islamic State by one of its acronyms.

The rest: http://www.stripes.com/news/us/army-sending-division-hq-element-to-iraq-1.304965

Yeah, but no, don't worry. It's just a slight escalation to have THE 1ST INFANTRY DIVISION HEADQUARTERS deploy to Iraq. Again.

How some of you people can defend this shit frankly astonishes me. The "MY TEAM FIRST!!!" ethos in American politics is going to be the death of us all.

will that make any difference? I don't think so. Until there are virtually people in the streets not with garish signs playing loud music but rather sticks, shovels and other implements of destruction, nothing will be done. The only thing the one-percenters do is laugh. If just one thing were to occur, they would not be laughing anymore, but I can't say it here. And let's not talk about passing laws and handling it that way... There are roughly 40 members of congress that still have base ethics and morality. But doing anything that will affect their pay or the companies they represent? No, that won't happen anymore.

The war machine is what rules America. Presidents that don't go along (Carter) also don't last long. Actually, I dont know that anyone totally and truly anti-war would ever win the nomination in these Citizen United times. Seems to me they let Obama win because they knew that his anti-war rhetoric would not be matched by equally fervent anti-war actions.

What's going on now, though, is totally stupid. We created ISIS by funding anti-Assad fighters, now we are funding more anti-Assad fighters to fight the first group. Will they just join ISIS or create yet another hate group that we have to fight with boots on the ground? STUPID CRAZY! What makes us think we can get this one right when we constantly get it so wrong? I think the whole goal is
1 - create more need for weapons/planes/ammo
2 - raise the price of oil
3 - cut funding for anything helping the working class

Come on kiddies, sing along!

Every generation lives this song.

BLACK SABBATH
"War Pigs"

Generals gathered in their masses,
just like witches at black masses.
Evil minds that plot destruction,
sorcerers of death's construction.
In the fields the bodies burning,
as the war machine keeps turning.
Death and hatred to mankind,
poisoning their brainwashed minds...Oh lord yeah!

Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor

Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait `till their judgement day comes, yeah!

Now in darkness, world stops turning,
as you hear the bodies burning.
No more war pigs of the power,
hand of god has struck the hour.
Day of judgement, god is calling,
on their knees the war pigs crawling.
Begging mercy for their sins,
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings...Oh lord, yeah!

Had to settle a score for daddy or fredumb or just to make a damn fool out of ourselves in front of the rest of the world.
Yup, if it was bad before we started, we went ahead and broke the crap out of it. Now what do we got? We got ISIS or ISIL or Kardashians or what ever the hell corporate media can sell us to be scared witless of this week. We got a bunch of corporate owned do nothing shills jokingly refereed to as congress running away from making a decision until they can find a way to turn it to political gain so they can get one more term of being corporate owned do nothing shills.

And what did that damned fool "MY TEAM FIRST!" ethos get us.

It is called policy continuity. Every liberal, progressive I know understands that Obama has had to play defense on domestic and international issues. His instincts was to get the fuck out of the ME...the reality is, he can't. Because the last administration blew up the ME and marginalized the vast majority of moderates. Now, who knows what or why a collection of radical morons are beheading people to accomplish what exactly? No one fucking knows. Especially people who have no skin in the game. But crucify Obama for dealing with this criminal gang...because someone has to be responsible for cleaning up and paying for the Pottery Shop mess that was already done when he was elected. Anyone that thinks they could do better, 2009 thru 2014, please tell me how you could have done better than PBO. No one here will, cuz no one has the guts to do what he did. Fuck all of these psuedo-progressives who sell out our side.

Will Pitt reminds me of Rush Limbaugh...they do their best work when the opposition is in charge of the WH. They are both better when they are on the offensive...neither can or wan't to play defense.

That's like saying the guy who raped a girl is responsible for helping her to get over it. The world nations, excluding us, need to help the ME heal. We only know how to keep hurting it. Yeah, we should send buckets and buckets and buckets of money with the others who will heal the ME but we, the US of A, need to get out of world politics and stand in the corner for a long, long time. We have proven we are incapable of being and should never have been, the world cop.

I do have one idea, though. Each and every time __________ (fill in the current boogeyman) beheads someone, we behead one of the members of the former administration. First Cheney, then Bush, then move on to Rice and even a few on the Supreme Court. Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

It won't do a fucking thing to stop this madness, but it might show that we get who fucked up the world in the first place.

Does this mean that we are starting a new war, introducing another non-combat operation, or is it the continuation of the last war that I was told had ended? I truly thought this was one area where different decisions would be made. This was an important area for me personally. I knew there would be great differences on many social issues. I didn't think our foreign policy would look like this. I have always thought and said that Bush was just the face of Rumsfield and Cheney's decades long foreign policy ideology. They were both insiders and power players for a very long time and much of the top brass of the military seems entrenched in their plan. Is Obama simply the new face of that same ideology. Obama went into office with extremely limited practice in foreign policy. I thought that was a good thing. Did he find himself overwhelmed? Seems he is simply taking the advice of those who support our decades old policy of aggression.

that Obama's first term actually helped the neocons because it rehabilited America's image in the eyes of the world.

The rest of the world started to like and trust America again.

However, under the radar, the neocons were regrouping and plotting their comeback.

During that time, the neocons' allies both inside and outside the administration and in various countries planted the seeds, and nurtured them, of the events we've seen unfolding in his second term.

I actually think the neocons intended this war for Romney but Rove's plans in 2012 didn't quite work out.

So, as a result, Obama is stewarding events as best he can, against the background of half of Congress, most of the media, and various leaders in other countries, being beholden to the neocons.

Sep 2014

Having both parties at the executive level take part in these actions has to make Rumsfield and Cheney smile. The number of people going to the polls educated on all of these things is truly limited. Many often just think "if it is being done, it is necessary." With both parties doing it the thought gets entrenched in their minds even deeper. It does the opposite of what many want, which is to wake up the populace to how unnecessary these actions are. Instead it furthers the belief that what we are doing is necessary. Reality is that we have other options. Tons of them.

I know this is worded poorly but I think my point is there and clear. Thanks for the response.

Render up your work, unasking,

Gladly in the battle fall.

So shall we, anointed soldiers,

either way Mr. President you lied. My thoughts go back to Vietnam when it was called a police action with just a few advisors. Us baby boomers all know how that turned out.. Sending 500 to Iraq is not even a force and is signing the death warrants of those young troops just to please the war mongering Republicans.
....And remember folks Hillary would use the same tactics..Give us great speeches and then her actions would be just the opposite of what she promised..Just like its been with Obama for 5+ years. So we sure as hell don't need another Obama

We need real leaders who can get round the table at the UN and bring the world together under international law.

Not the same as a right turn, but I can understand the confusion. There are some of us who believe that actually leaving the ME is the right thing and that never, ever having gone there is the right thing. Now, just substitute correct for every right.

by this measure, troops in embassies mean that 98% of countries have troops in 98% of the other countries.

But this group won't let that get in the way of their lust for manufactured outrage.

when soldiers die in war, the enemy does not distinguish between combat and non-combat troops. If any of these soldiers die in combat (because I can post you a link to Icasualties and you can see all the soldiers from Division Headquarters that died during the war), will their deaths not be combat deaths.

It's certainly been the death of a whole lot of innocent people now for a long time. They have it all figured out although I would been certain they were wrong had someone even suggested six years ago that if a Dem won the WH 'Liberals' would suddenly become War Supporters'.

Now I have seen it with my own eyes.

The silence of who we thought were our friends, not to mention the outright apologetics from others, has been astounding, but information we needed to have.

is right on target. Too few realize that they are being manipulated into focusing all of their energy on the wrong target. The 99% is made up of Republicans and Democrats, we have more in common with Republican rank and file than we do the 1% or even our Democratic Senators and Representatives. We have the same problems as the Republicans but we are divided by thinking "our" solutions are better than their solutions.

I sometimes wonder when the Koch brothers want a good laugh if they go to Free Republic first or to DU first. Either way they can see that their diversions are working.

In my opinion, it's definitely not a good sign but it doesn't mean that combat troops or that many soldiers are headed to Iraq. However the fact that a higher level HQ is going to Iraq makes me worry about mission creep.......

You can argue legitimately over the need to respond militarily, but unlike Bush's war there's no disputing that ISIL exists in reality.

because patriotism. And raise taxes on every American over $100K, and eliminate all corporate tax deductions and subsidies and loopholes. Because of their patriotic duty.

And also some major reforms and increased budget for the VA hospital system, because patriotism.

How much is Koch industries willing to donate directly to the treasury to pay for this? Freedom isn't free.

We need healthy, educated, confident citizenry for this war, so lets implement universal single payer health system, universal public university education, and big infrastructure projects for public transit and data networks, and clean energy, and other similar stuff, because it will support the war effort. Support our troops by putting Americans back to work, because American exceptionalism.

At least there are more women and gays in the military now.

I was flipping through the stations in the hotel and came upon Rachel Maddow. She was the one who told me and she wasn't happy at all. I like that about her. It's not about teams - if it was wrong under Dubya, it's wrong under Obama. Not a hard concept to get, IMO, but rare, apparently.
