He's planning on treating teachers and other employees the same as before. In 2010 he and his running mate announced they would take on public employee unions....and they did.
"What the Democratic Party is all about is growth and change," Cuomo said. "It's a new day. There are new problems that need new approaches. And that is what's meant by the new Democratic Party."
.."One change from the "old" Democratic party seems to be the willingness of Cuomo and his running mate Robert Duffy to take on a powerful constituency -- the public employee unions. Duffy has battled with union leaders in Rochester over some of his controversial proposals, including his call for more control of city schools. Cuomo says he respects that.
"Yes, he tangled with public employee unions," Cuomo said. "Guess what, we're going to be tangling with public employee unions going forward."
AND he's going to do it again when re-elected. He's proud of his stance against public employee unions.
Cuomo: No Shift In Treatment Of Teachers In Second Term
From State of Politics:
Asked about whether hes shifting his tactics post-primary, Cuomo said he wouldnt change his approach to public workers and teachers labor organizations.
I knew what I was doing when I did not cater to the teachers union. I didnt have to take the endorsement of the teachers union the first time, by the way.
He's probably right. He apparently doesn't need teachers on board to win. I wonder if that is true of the nation-wide races coming up this year.
I think they believe it to be true, that teachers are not a necessary factor for winning...because there has not been one single solitary favorable move toward this group since 2009.

STILL not about actual education. When has a politician discussed actual subject matter, aside from the bromide "need more math and science"?

(23,156 posts)I have long been bothered by the need on the part of those running for office to get endorsements. Often, getting those endorsements involves out and out pandering to whatever that group wants. It is almost impossible for anyone running for office to simply stand up for his or her beliefs and get elected that way. Nope. Gotta have the teachers. Gotta have the firemen. Gotta have the NRA. and so on.

(15,472 posts)If I want help understanding whom to vote foe and do no become an expert in all the subtleties of the candidates, of it is not coming clear because no one has forced the question in a way powerful enough to get a real answer, I want the liberal groups who are working so hard for whatever issue and spend my donations doing it I want them to force the answers and endorse accordingly.

(23,156 posts)But many candidates will twist themselves around so as to get endorsements from as many groups as possible. Teabaggers seem willing to say "Screw you, I don't care" to anything that's not in line with their extreme views, but moderates and liberals more often (from what I can see) will do their best to get as many endorsements as possible.
I do pay a small amount of attention to such endorsements, and when I haven't learned anything else about a candidate, I will often use endorsements to help me figure out who to vote for. But I'm still bothered by it.

(28,979 posts)along with labor in general. Time for Democratic leaders to be taught which side their bread is buttered on. FUCK THEM for publically attacking their own while kissing ass of those who hate them hoping for a few crumbs from their master's table. Maybe the Koch brothers will back Cuomo. I hope to god he doesn't have presidential aspirations because he just wrote off a whole lot of votes. Including mine.
