Next month hubby and I will celebrate 25 years of marriage HOW long have you been married?

28 years together.

It hasn't always been perfect but we are very happy.

It is amazing the number of people that tell us how incredible it is that we have been married that long.

Our marriage has lasted longer than any of his families original marriages.

My mom and dad were married until my dad died of leukemia 3 months to the day of DX. They were almost married 50 years.

We are not celebrating until spring break when we are taking ourselves and the kids on a cruise. I can't wait!!!

But I also realize marriage is a ever evolving relationship. I've known several of the "they're the perfect couples" to get divorced in the 10-25 or 30 years of marriage range.

My neighbor is the perfect example he's 55, he was married for 25 years before she got tired of him working 7 days a week.

We got a late start.

Parents were married for over 50.

Half-brother for nearly 40 (he's a widower). His parents for perhaps 3. His grandparents, for many a decade.

Half-sister for nearly 50 now. Her parents for perhaps 3. (And her mother had had 8 marriages and 7 husbands last time I asked her about it 30 years ago.)

116. Married 25 years, 4 months. But the story is a bit more complicated.
Sun Sep 28, 2014, 07:42 PM
Sep 2014

I met my future wife in 1975 through an ad posted on a bulletin board at the Stanford student union. She was advertising a room for rent in her house. She was recently divorced, with 2 kids who stayed part time with her, and although she was working full time in a marketing position at a biotech company, she needed the rent money. I was in my second year of grad school and I needed a place to stay. So, we lived together for two years without...uh...living together.

In the winter of 1977 we planned a weekend cross-country skiing trip with some of her friends. The other people had to cancel but we decided to go anyway. After a fine and tiring day of skiing we shared a couple of drinks (I had brought my friend Jack Daniels along). It was a bit of a surprise to both of us, but we...uh...deepened our relationship that evening.

The living situation at her house changed after our weekend skiing. However, I continued to pay rent until 1983 when we bought a house together. By this time I had left the PhD program at Stanford and was working at a computer start-up. She had also left her job and was doing consulting to pay the bills, while she was starting her own company.

In early June 1989, with a small group of friends and family in attendance, we were married in the rose garden that we had planted in front of our house.

In 1991, we sold our house, left California, and moved to Oregon where we started a blueberry farm and, in 1992, had a house built, while continuing to work our jobs by telecommuting and traveling.

So, 25 years married plus 12 to 14 years together.

& they're still in good health. Dad plows snow on the tractor & roto-tills the garden at 92 years young. A couple years ago I visited them for Christmas & dad was outside with a sledgehammer & a wedge splitting wood for the stove ... at age 90. My grandfather lived by himself on the farm & was in good health until he passed away at 94 sitting in his chair watching TV.

I REALLY, REALLY hope I got a lot of their genes!!!
