Paul Ryan just got punked on PBS!!! So he can't run because of what he just said!
He was asked just now by Charlie Rose, "do you want to be speaker of the house".
Ryan: "NO, I'm not interested in that at all. Rose: "Why not?" Ryan: "Because that is a terrible family job!" "It requires you to work weekends, and travel across the country for other candidates." "I don't want to be away from my family." "Look, I'm going to go home on the weekends." "I'm going to go to ball games and scout meetings". "I have three kids, 8, 9 and 11. "I want to be home at night and home on the weekends with them." "It's too important!" Rose: Well that rules out Speaker, and certainly running for President. Ryan: DEER IN THE HEADLIGHTS! AH, AH, Rose: You ran with Mitt Romney! Did you not campaign on weekends???? Ryan: quickly..."I took my family with me" Rose: So you think you can do that while being a President? You can balance that? Ryan: "Yes, I think there is a way to do that." DU'er do remember this....he is more committed to family. Nothing wrong with that, but we need a more dedicated person to be the President. Ryan just got punked!

1. There is plenty to criticize Ryan about, but spending time with his family is not one of them.
I remember when President Obama was first elected, and the First Lady commented in an interview that it was the first time that he got to spend more time with their family. Before that, he was in Springfield as a state senator and then in DC as a senator. He was finally going to be home at night!

I don't get why the repugs think this guy is so sharp. He didn't even realize that he was eliminating himself from running for president by being so easily suckered by something that should be so obvious to anyone who wants to be president — often times it's a 24/7 job.
Reminds me how VP Joe Biden ran circles around him during the VP debate in the 2012 campaign. I sure don't want this not-smart-enough-to-know-he-made-a-stupid-goof doofus negotiating our nation's future with anyone. He's nowhere close to being ready for prime time. 61. I am disappointed that you'd think anyone here would be critical of him for spending time with
his family. I think people here are throwing the BS flag on his hypocrisy. He was quick to use the "I want to spend more time with my family" card on one hand, then has a completely different story when asked if he would be willing to sacrifice that time with family, if he is president. And his comeback that he drug his family along on the campaign trail for "family time" is absurd.

In my reply, under the heading, I recounted how the Obamas were pleased that the President would be home more than when he held other offices.
I have no way of knowing how much time any of them actually spend with their families. Maybe Mr. Ryan did take his children on the campaign trail. He has young kids... and he probably wants to be with them, just as any other young family would. I am no Paul Ryan fan to be sure, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one before assuming that he was a liar and a hypocrite. That's all. ![]() |

be Speaker (which takes up a lot of personal time) and spend quality time with his family, he said no he would not be Speaker because he knew he couldn't do both. So he can't do both as the Speaker but could do both as the President. Smells like hypocrisy to me.

Oh yeah? He wants to be able to spend as much time as possible with his family? Then what the hell are you doing in a job like this, IN THE FIRST PLACE, paul dear? This is a carnivorous job you have. You HAVE TO BE away from your family for the sake of your constituents' business when you feign to "represent" them at higher levels of power and influence. Why are you in that job if you want to spend so much time with your family? Running for president - by itself - would demand that you spend a LOT more time AWAY from your family. Just the "running for" part. If, Heaven forbid, you actually won, I think you'd find the world won't stop on the weekends so you can spend that time playing with your family. The crises won't stop. They won't end at 5pm every Fridays, and wait til 9 or 10am on Mondays to start, or resume.

He always did that when he found himself in a position of weakness, on defense, having to ask for something, having to broach an uncomfortable subject or try to explain something away. Invariably! When he found himself in or near "Shit Creek." Licked his lips like that, first. And then proceeded directly toward or into "Shit Creek" as reliably and predictably as ever.

Last edited Tue Sep 30, 2014, 06:55 PM - Edit history (1) Could his family not just fly with him on Air Force One? Would it really cost that much more if his family travelled with him everywhere he went? The bigger problem to me is the age of the children. It seems that all his kids are school age. How would he manage taking his family with him everywhere when his kids would have to be in school? It seems he would have to home school his kids if he wanted to take them everywhere with him. Other than that he would only be able to travel on weekends and in the summer.

47. Extra SS men when he travels extra vehicles,
who would pay for the teachers to come on all those trips. The president don't have time to teach school. "Oh, hang on Mr. Putin, I have a spelling class to teach." And if he's anything like the other republican presidents, the kids are already smarter than he is.

72. The Mom
If the kids were to be home schooled I was expecting the mom to do the teaching. If the mom is doing the teaching it seems she would not have to be paid.

38. correct answer to that question is:
I don't want to be Speaker because the crazy Tbaggers won't follow a leader, and it's embarrassing to even be associated with them because they're a) stupid, b) hate-mongers, and c) throw temper tantrums worse than a 2-yr old.

57. amusing though this is, it's a very minor gaffe.
no politician is going to pay a political price for giving lip service to his family.
the worst of it is that it shows he's capable of gaffes, but this is exactly the sort of minor blip that good politicians learn from and improve from. if he can't help himself and proves incorrigibly gaffe-prone, that could be a problem for him in the long run but even that's not politically fatal. most likely he won't make this mistake again and it will be quickly forgotten. opponents can't bring it up without appearing like they're attacking his family or his dedication to them. besides, i'd rather fight ryan because his ideas are horrible. |

Hasn't this zombie-eyed fool been on vacation most of this year? Also, for the rest of this year? When does he get to spend time at the gym, making his muscles look manly? Sounds as though he does not want ANY job, just time with the family. He is rich, retire.

79. Ryan just isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.
How many dull actions and statements does it take for some people to realize that he isn't presidential material let alone representative material. It just seems like dumbos like this are having their hay-day in this generation. In other generations they wouldn't have stood a chance.

81. Ryan also unhappy to hear Rose ask about all those now wanting Romney to run again!
Rose continued, you know you hear it a lot, don't you think many have buyers remorse and think they should have helped him more? So many now are asking him to run again. Do you think that he should?
You could tell that Ryan did not want to go there. You could see in his face the disappointment that the conversation went from him, not wanting to miss out on family time, to "hey, don't you think Romney should run again?" In the end he was like oh sure he should or something...but it took a while to get him to say it. RYAN IS JEALOUS OF ROMNEY...AND THE TALK OF REPUGS WANTING ROMNEY TO RUN AGAIN. The whole segment that I saw was just hilarious! |

85. Heavy Sigh. . . .
I hate to keep reminding everyone about this, but he is a republican. You can not believe anything he says. Even with video of him saying it, with millions of witnesses, he will deny it. Some democrats are not looking out for your best interests, but republicans can't feel good about themselves unless we are being tortured by them. They are all bad. Vote in every election, and vote them all out. Make republicans extinct.

Dear Mr/Ms Smith,
I hereby request you to excuse my son/daughter from class this coming Thursday and Friday, as well as the following Monday. I will be on a diplomatic mission to Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel and Libya. Family man that I am, my values require that I spend weekends with my children, so they will be coming with me. You know where you can stick their homework assignments. I thank you in advance for your cooperation, Insincerely, Lyin' Ryan |
