(15,438 posts)It still astounds me how too many people would continue to empower and either directly or indirectly work for the very Party that's out to harm Americans in the worst ways possible by either voting for the Robber Barons' Party or voting for fringe candidates who have zero chances of winning, instead of supporting the Party that, however imperfectly, continue to work for all Americans.

It's kind of a sad reminder that there ARE members of the wealthy elites who actually have consciences and concern for the greater good. Where are THEY, now, when we need 'em?

(10,893 posts)are the reason why it doesn't sit well with me when people generalize all so-called "1%ers" as evil. There are indeed some out there who care about the greater good instead of just their personal wealth. People like Ed Shultz and Liz Warren are part of the 1%, but they have both advocated a more egalitarian approach to economics compared to the GOP. Pres. Obama is a 1%er, but he eliminated top tax cuts and has pushed for a jobs bill. During the 2012 election cycle, the philanthropist Warren Buffet actually called for his taxes to be raised. And the list goes on.
The way I look at it is not so much the 1% vs. the 99%, but it's more of a matter of those of us who care about everyone having their basic needs met versus people who don't care about that, and instead want to go back to outdated policies.

(49 posts)I just finished watching the PBS documentary by Ken Burns on the Roosevelts. And yesterday Forbes came out with the top 100 richest persons list in USA, Koch brothers wealth swelled to $84(42+42) billion. I saw it steadily increasing from year to year - just like other Billionaires. But when almost 80% of the top 100 have pledged 50% of their wealth to poverty alleviation in US and the world through Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Koch brothers has done the exact opposite. They have pulled their shenanigans to put their puppets in the Supreme Court and made sure so called "Conservative Tea Par tiers" go to Congress. They have decimated the states that they operate in and destroyed Canada with their toxic waste derived from tar pit sand oilfields. History has so profoundly remembered the Roosevelts and the same will happen to Kochs they will forever be treated like the sleazebags they are in the pit of history as the dirtiest, most manipulative family on this nation. I hope their children and grand-children can stomach this ill-gotten wealth properly as history has shown eternity is not kind to these kind of family. Anyone remembers what happened to the Shahs of Iran or Ershad in Bangladesh???

(19,537 posts)The Koch family was in bed with Joseph Stalin and helped him build up his infrastructure in the Soviet Union and their wealth in the process. So... How is Obama more working with commies than that?
Tell the Republicans if they don't want commies to dictate their life, they should force Kochs to withdraw all of theirs! Don't drink the kochaine koolaid!
