It is made in Denmark and has subtitles but is very interesting. It's about politics and a lady Prime Minister, with all the personal problems that everyday people face. It's a nice comparative to the way American politics work.

(115,706 posts)I was so disappointed when there were no more episodes after three seasons. Is it showing again somewhere? I'd like to watch it again.

(135,425 posts)I'll keep an eye out for it, though, in my travels. Does it have subtitles? I'd need them! Ooops, edit--I see it DOES have subtitles, good news for me!

(60,010 posts)Remarkable show. Superb acting, very real characterizations.
The 3rd season takes place some time after the end of the 2nd season and took me a bit to get into.
One of the few shows that I have on disc now.
A benchmark for anything else out there.
Try to catch the Danish version of the Bridge, and The Killing, if you can. Equally fine.
I will say that the US version of the Killing is very very good also.

The Danes are so nice, even when they're evil, compared (for example) to the folks in House of Cards. At least so far. But that echoes my experience in real life - the Danes I've known, including while traveling there, have been incredibly nice.

My favourite line is 'Cant the bitch count? for the Count to 90.

(101,319 posts)The BBC created a regular slot for it, along with The Bridge and The Killing, and other European drama (the original Swedish Wallander series, the excellent French police/legal thriller 'Engrenages' ('Spiral' as the English title), plus a Belgian series (not quite so good in my opinion, but interesting to see them switching between Flemish and French while we get the subtitles), and several Italian ones.
It was interesting to see politics based around coalitions, and plotlines where it's believable that someone can go for a liberal policy and expect to get some extra support for it.
Interestingly, Denmark didn't get its first woman PM until the series had already started. Her husband is British (the son of the retired Labour politicians Neil and Glenys Kinnock), and after that (minor spoiler), the writer introduced the British boyfriend of the fictional PM.
