Tucker Carlson: Maybe Fans Of 'Say Yes To The Dress' TV Show Shouldn't Vote

Tucker Carlson, the one male panelist featured Thursday on Fox News' "Outnumbered," suggested young women shouldn't vote if they need a political ad modeled after a popular TLC show to motivate them to go to the polls. The panel was discussing the College Republican National Committee's new digital ad campaign "Say Yes To The Candidate," which was inspired by TLC's "Say Yes To The Dress." The first ad in the nearly $1 million campaign compared the Florida gubernatorial candidates to wedding dresses.

Sandra Smith was the lone female panelist to defend the ad for targeting a key demographic that may be undecided about voting. "It doesn't matter," Smith said of the other panelists' complaints about the ad. "They're of voting age, and someone needs to target them." "I don't think as a general matter we should be encouraging people who don't know anything about what they're voting for to vote, that's what Democrats do," Carlson said later. "Republicans shouldn't follow suit on that. You shouldn't pander to people."

"Tell us what the candidates are for, what they're against," he added. "Attacks are allowed, I'm all for attack ads. But, you know, you're targeting people who are watching 'Say Yes To The Dress?'" Smith objected to that. "Why don't you stop patronizing them and tell them what the campaign's actually about," Carlson said after a bit of back-and-forth. "Maybe they won't pay attention," Smith said. "Maybe they shouldn't vote," Carlson said. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/fox-panelist-say-yes-to-the-dress

Republicans are always concerned that people are voting who shouldn't vote. The criteria for "shouldn't" is pretty elastic, but usually seems to cover anyone who might be inclined to vote for candidates Republicans don't approve of. They seem quite comfortable with a dictatorship, as long as they're the dictators. I think one of them might have even said that publicly.
