How are they determining the size? I mean to go by the outside you could say that my house is

Furthermore, I bet that the average size of new homes in the US is proportionally larger than current averages. The US and Australia are both countries where there's no real shortage of land as such--sprawl might be a policy problem, but you're not actually going to run out of room the way you might in the UK.

2240 sq ft. If you go by heated living space it's more like 1860 sq ft or something.
