A newly created group at the Reddit online community promises to teach men how to “correct” women using “rape” for the “good of society.”

Late last month, a Reddit group — or subreddit — titled “PhilosophyOfRape” was created by a user of the same name.

“Rape served a very important function in mitigating female behavior and keeping it in check,” the moderator explained in a manifesto on the subreddit. “Back in the time of prehistory, a woman couldn’t behave as shamelessly slutty as she can today, because of the risk of catching the eye of the wrong male.”

Now that men had to obtain “consent” from women before having sex, PhilosophyOfRape argued that “we find ourselves in a situation gone way, way, too far.”

“These harpies need to be humbled. And for their own good,” the user opined. “Disciplinary smacks and slaps come in a different form for these more grown children (college women), since the situation was more extreme in permissiveness and went on for more years. But the curing power of good ol’ fashion physical strength wielded to correct can not be understated.”

“It’s not only morally justifiable to rape such a woman, it’s and brave,” the manifesto insisted. “We’re talking about filthy, unmitigated, sluts. Oblivious and loud. Shameless. Belligerent. Entitled. Selfie taking, Tindr-whoring, Teenage-walking-herpes-sores. We are talking about bad, bad, individuals. Unruly, neglicted [SIC], children, run-amok. That badly need to be punished. Badly.”

The statement concluded that women needed to be raped “for the good of society,” and that the subreddit “will teach how to do it safely.”

If you read any comments made to women in all vocations when they post something or receive media attention, many are threatened with rape or worse. These may be keyboard cowboys who will never leave their basements.
However, some women have found out that they have stalkers among these miscreants.

So while it may be trolling, it very well may not be. Beyond vile statements are made to women all the time because of anonimity or some other reason.

I think rape is typically motivated by exactly those kinds of thoughts, whether the rapist is consciously aware of them or not. Rapists HATE women, and want to punish and control them. I tell myself that men only turn into asshats like this when there is a group context that enables some sort of echo chamber effect. One guy then says something to sound bad, tough, and dominant, and then all the other guys compete in a race to the bottom. And since all the guys are doing the same thing, it starts to seem "natural". This emerges in any online environment where a "male preserve" can be defined, not just Reddit. 4Chan is of course the most infamous. I often list Wikipedia - that one is attractive to guys because all the obscure rules make it susceptible to "gaming the system". And of course online games create plenty of private all-male spaces where men can reinforce each others' fantasies of a world run by dog packs. (Their fantasy is probably "wolf" but since they are acting like horn dogs, I'll say dogs).

Men who socialize in mixed company tend to evolve and interact with women as fellow human beings, though.

While I tried to edit it to the satisfaction of the Powers That Be, all I got for that cooperation was a guy locking it for "irrelevance" after most of the point was stripped away.
