Mitch McConnell brings in the slimy James O'Keefe to help him in his negative campaign....

James O'Keefe, the pimp of the infamous ACORN attacks, is called back into service by the equally slimy Mitch McConnell.

He has produced a video supposedly showing Grimes "campaign workers" saying that Alison Grimes is lying about standing behind the coal miners of Kentucky. On video, they say she is doing it out of necessity.

Mitch McConnell must be beginning to feel the heat? The latest poll that came out today shows him to be behind against the charismatic, independent Kentucky woman. The fact that he has not denounced the politics of the slimy pimp O'Keefe shows that he is deeply concerned that he is going to lose his seat and the possible Majority Leader post in the US Senate.

Alison Grimes has been making great gains with the people in Eastern Kentucky and has garnered the support of the UMWA and the US Steel Workers unions. They understand that Mitch McConnell has done nothing for them in the last 30 years and it's time to send him back to wherever he came from...

He even comes off as a dick in his own campaign commercials.

But nevertheless, Grimes should hit back - hard AND fast - against O'Keefe and his lying ways. There are plenty of people who will swallow down whatever O'Keefe and his handlers are peddling, because it comports so well with their own preconceived notions. Grimes shouldn't let this poison seep into the race without a strong counter.

...by the guy that was sentenced to 3 years probation and had to stay in his home state for breaking into Senator Mary Landrieu's office? Surely Mitch would not want to associate his campaign with such low-lifes??

This is the sort of ratfucking dirty trick that really should be beneath a sitting Senator, and it speaks to a certain desperation on McConnell's part. But I don't think ignoring it is the way to go. The response should be two-fold: First, a counterattack defining O'Keefe and his sleazebucket ways. No sense getting into the substance of the spurious O'Keefe video, but make sure every voter in Kentucky knows the character of James O'Keefe. After about three days of that, start calling on McConnell to denounce O'Keefe's support.

If McConnell doesn't respond, start tarring him with the same brush used to make O'Keefe look like a sleaze merchant. I think ignoring it would be a mistake, and give low-information voters the excuse they need not to "risk" replacing McConnell.

has McConnell mentioned what the videos contain? Have they appeared in public together?

I'm not in Kentucky so I don't know if this is getting any airplay there or not. If not, Grimes should ignore it.

That's why I proposed the counter first to O'Keefe, reminding Kentuckians of his unsavory past and character. After a couple-three days of getting after O'Keefe as a sleaze merchant, call on McConnell to disassociate himself from O'Keefe. In my estimation, McConnell doesn't dare condemn O'Keefe; O'Keefe has been of too much service to Republicans in the past, and I'm sure they'd like to keep using him as a cat's paw in the future. It will be an easy sell to put O'Keefe and McConnell together.

If McConnell won't denounce O'Keefe, then let him spend this crucial stretch of the campaign explaining why he won't disown O'Keefe and his dirty tricks. Grimes can present herself as the honorable politician who doesn't stoop to gutter tactics.

Our local TV markets include a heavily populated Northern Kentucky area that has been getting a lot of attention from both campaigns. There's something interesting about watching it from a distance with a vested interest in the outcome but no really way to impact it on voting day.

Grimes' ads seem to have more of a sense of confidence and directness. Mitch - no so much. If you just listened and didn't know the incumbent, there are many of them where she sounds like it. And there are lot where Mitch sounds like a whiney challenger.

I'd love nothing more than to see Mitch sitting on a porch in Louisville for the next forever years just mulling over his legacy of obstructionism.

We can hope.
