I'm in Minnesota CD-4. Our incumbent is Betty McCollum, and she's almost certain to be re-elected. A very good progressive congresswoman.
We neighbor on MN CD-6 and, while Michele Bachmann has some Democratic challengers, it's a long shot that she won't win again.
How about your district? Who's currently in office and who's running, and what are the realistic chances for a Democratic win? Nobody knows congressional districts like residents of the district. Let's see if we can get a feel for November. Be sure to indicate political party. Few people know every member of Congress.

(6,336 posts)NJ-6 has a safe Democratic incumbent battling two teabaggers (there will be a primary, one was the 2010 nominee who I would call NJ's Michele Bachmann) for the nomination. I cried when I found out this would not be my district anymore.
NJ-4 had an opportunity, but IMO we blew it at the county convention. The current incumbent is one of the biggest misogynists in congress (he tried to redefine rape) and we had the chance to go at him with a woman. She lost at the convention to a man who can self-fund. IMO the only man who lives in the district with the money and name recognition to take this guy down is currently on tour (Bruce Springsteen).

(151,180 posts)Bad news, though, in your new district, it seems. Maybe a strong GOTV effort will bring out enough Democrats for an upset.

(6,336 posts)As a field staffer on a campaign, that is my specialty.
However, 2/4 of the strong Democratic towns in the county are not in the district as it is one gerrymandered for a Republican. This incumbent has been in office for 32 years now, and if the county party (run by men and about 80% of the convention attendees were men) knew the implications of running a woman for this seat we could have at least put up a fight. NJ does not have a single woman in the congressional delegation (there are others running this year too) and this could have made a real impact.

(22,845 posts)We got redistricted from Chris Van Hollen's 8th District in order to put more Democrats in the 6th, where the incumbent is Republican Rep Roscoe Bartlett,
Disappointingly, the Democratic primary winner for the 6th was John Delaney, who is not only a bank owner but donated $2400 to a Tea Party candidate a year or two ago.
Delaney has a lot of money. I have no idea whether he has a chance of unseating Bartlett, who I believe is the only Republican member of Maryland's congressional delegation.

(151,180 posts)If he votes with the Democratic caucus, that will be a gain of a seat. We need every seat we can get in the House. Thanks!

(747 posts)I'm not sure, but I think my area has been redistricted. I was so thrilled when we elected Kathy Hochul in the 26th. She's the first Dem to hold the seat in years. The useless Tom Reynolds was replaced with the short-lived Christopher Lee and then we got Kathy. I think they took my town out of the mix and put us into Brian Higgins district. That's ok too because I think his re-election chances are better than Kathy's. As long as it's my rep has a "D" alongside his/her name, I'm good with it.
I'm not sure how Hochul will fare. There's a teabagger who wants the seat along with Chris Collins, the guy who just lost his job as County Executive. The district is pretty red. I hope she survives.

(1,039 posts)I don't think that a Democrat has done better than 40% here in decades. With my congressional district, all statewide races, and all local races going heavily to Republicans, I often vote in their primary so that I can have at least some influence on the election.

Empty Nest" sitcom star Park Overall is adding her name to the list of actors-turned-politicians with a run for a Senate seat in Tennessee.
"I have officially filed (papers) to run against Bob Corker for the U.S. Senate," Overall told The Greenville Sun on Thursday. "Somebody had to do it and if nobody else will do it, I will do it."
Let's hope that's not her campaign slogan.
Tennessee native Overall, 55, is best known as sassy nurse Laverne on the 1988-1995 NBC sitcom "Empty Nest," a spin-off of "The Golden Girls." She also had recurring roles on "Reba" and "The Critic," and starred in Lifetime movies "Fifteen and Pregnant" and "The Price of a Broken Heart," about a wife who sues her husband's mistress.

(39,864 posts)Open seats everywhere and incumbent Congressmen running in new districts thanks to gerrymandering. Northern California will be an area that merits watching, and I'm hopping may add one Democratic seat - Lungren's seat! The two districts to watch will be CA 10 (the Democratic astronaut, Jose Hernandez, is in this race) and CA 7 (Ami Bera vs Dan Lungren) .
My old district, CA 10, moved into a red area and may flip, yet I've been moved into a red district, CA 3 that has a strong, strong probability of flipping.

(4,340 posts)There may be some teabagger candidate in the primaries, but no Democrat even bothered to show up. What's worse is that after redistricting, TX-17 stretches into the Austin area to take away votes from Lloyd Doggett.

(33,424 posts)The district actually has more independents than either party with Dems and Reps pretty even with each other. Three Democrats are beating each other up for the nomination whiles the Reps seem to be settled on theirs. Too early to make a prediction especially since it is a new district.

The district has been Democratic for who knows how long... Even if they eventually go-ahead with the re-drawn lines, there's not much difference for this district.
I was hunting around to find who was running in the primaries for the 7th & 8th and found this great link for "Ballotpedia" where you can to pick a state and then see who's running at each level of government:

(13,446 posts)GOP longtimer Tim Johnson announced after the primary that he's decided not to seek re-election--in spite of his recent Primary win. That leaves it up to the Repub Party Chairs from the congressional district to choose who will be slated on the ballot to replace Johnson. I have heard and seen a lot of comments our of local GOP stalwarts that they are SERIOUSLY pissed off at the situation. That split--while it won't guarantee David's win--sure is nice to see.
Dr David Gill is a Progressive. Period. There is no other way to describe him, and he'd probably be pissed at me if I DID say anything else. I've known and honestly liked David for several years. He's taken hits for having run and lost before, but that really is not an accurate way to describe the situation because we were re-districted. This new district is not the gerrymandered GOP hell hole that it used to be, and polls indicate that this could be a seat the Dems can pick up. David isn't taking PAC or corporate cash, and did I remember to add he's REALLY progressive?
Here's Blue America's welcome to David Gill:

(53,386 posts)and he will win barring an act of God, but this is actually bad news since we are the Democratic vote sink, every white liberal in the triangle and black voter west of Wilson and south of Durham is in this district, making several of the adjoining districts Republican seats. We will for sure lose Miller and have him replaced with either Coble (a nephew of Jesse Helms or the person who indicted Edwards). We are likely to lose Kissle and McIntyre as well as have Elmer shored up all because of this district.
