CDC, Ebola and health insurance:

From the CDC web page

"Avoid nonessential travel to Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone.
If you must travel, please make sure to do the following:

Before your trip check your health insurance plan and benefits to learn what is covered"

http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices/warning/ebola-guinea

Now, the CDC does go on to say that you should make sure you are covered for emergency medical evacuation, but I find the advice to check your insurance policy morbidly wonderful.

1. And if you have no health insurance, better not get exposed to Ebola!

Though I've talked to a surprising number of DUers who are convinced that Duncan's being turned away the first time couldn't possibly have had anything to do with his lack of health insurance.

our company provides a 'rider' just for that eventuality. there is not much worse that i can think of related to travel than being stuck in a foreign country, whose healthcare options may be very limited, and being told that you can fly home in that air-ambulance, but it is going to be on your own dime (or $100,000... give or take).

it's just that as I read the phrase "check you coverage" I imagined calling up the insurance company and asking if I'm covered for Ebola......
