The Redskins have been under fire for their name the past few years.
There were protestors at the game today as the team took on the Arizona Cardinals, and that's been a theme throughout the season.
But Dan Snyder, Redskins owner, countered with the above scene from his box, which turns out to have an interesting subplot. Ben Shelly is actually the soon-to-be former president of the Navajo Nation, as he was beaten badly in a recent election, as Deadspin discovered.

Shelly made moves not approved by the whole tribe. He stole money and is basically a grifter. Birds of a feather.....

(19,339 posts)Shelly's public support of Snyder has clashed with his own tribal council, which voted 9-2 in April to formally oppose the nickname "Redskins."
Shelly was accused of going behind the back of tribal leaders when he partnered with Dan Snyder's Original Americans Foundation (OAF) to host a golf tournament. When sponsors the National Indian Gaming Association and the Notah Begay III Foundation learned of the involvement of Snyder's foundation, they withdrew their support.
